Summary:
This role is ideal for an experienced Computer Engineer with deep expertise in embedded systems, FPGA development, and real-time computing. As a Senior Computer Engineer, you will lead the design, development, integration, and testing of advanced embedded computing platforms supporting underwater sensing, communications, autonomous systems, and unmanned maritime vehicles for U.S. defense applications. The ideal candidate combines strong hardware/software integration skills with hands-on laboratory experience and enjoys solving challenging multidisciplinary engineering problems in a research and development environment.
What You'll Do:
Design and develop embedded computing architectures for advanced maritime systems.
Implement state machines, signal processing algorithms, and real-time software on FPGA, DSP, SoC, and microcontroller platforms.
Develop embedded applications using VHDL, C, and C++ in Linux environments.
Integrate and troubleshoot embedded hardware and software within larger electromechanical systems.
Support laboratory integration, verification, validation, and field testing activities.
Lead technical projects while mentoring junior engineers.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams on R&D programs.
Prepare engineering documentation, technical reports, and design reviews.
Experience You'll Need:
Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
7+ years of professional embedded systems development experience (additional experience preferred).
Strong FPGA development using VHDL.
Extensive experience with embedded C and C++ development in Linux.
Experience with Digital Signal Processors (DSPs), System-on-Chip (SoC), System-on-Module (SoM), and microcontrollers.
Experience working with ADCs, DACs, digital communication protocols (SPI, I2C, I2S, CAN, RS232/422/485), and high-speed digital interfaces.
Experience integrating and debugging embedded systems using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and laboratory test equipment.
Strong communication, documentation, and technical leadership skills.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance (typically requires U.S. citizenship).
Preferred Qualifications:
Underwater acoustics or maritime systems experience.
Xilinx Vivado development environment.
AXI protocol and custom IP Core development.
Linux userspace driver development.
MATLAB and signal processing experience.
Experience creating technical proposals or supporting business development.
Experience working in research and development environments.
