Join Lancaster County’s Best Places to Work – Direct Wire and Cable!
The Senior Cable Design Engineer creates business value by accelerating new product development and providing technical support across the organization for low voltage cables. This role owns product drawings, technical data sheets, in-house NPD lab testing, and day-to-day engineering support for sales. By pre-qualifying products internally before third-party agency submittal, this position reduces certification risk and time-to-market. The Senior Cable Design Engineer is a core member of our cross-functional product development team and works closely with operations, quality, and procurement to drive projects from concept through launch.
Responsibilities
Plan and execute in-house lab testing to validate product performance before third-party certification (UL, CSA, ETL), ensuring high first-pass approval rates.
Drive new product development projects from concept through prototyping, trial coordination, and production handoff.
Participate in material compound selection, working with suppliers to evaluate polymers, rubbers, and insulation compounds for performance, cost, and manufacturability.
Create and maintain product data sheets and drawings for sales support, customer submittals, and manufacturing.
Utilize cable design tools to create BOMs and routing for manufacturing
Serve as primary technical resource for the sales team — fielding specification inquiries, reviewing customer requirements, and supporting quoting.
Work alongside Quality and experienced team members to absorb institutional product and process knowledge and document it for continuity.
Support expansion of internal test lab capabilities and help maintain organized product documentation libraries.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent engineering experience)
2–4 years of related design experience in a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment
Proficient in CAD software design and modeling (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent)
Hands-on lab or product testing experience; working knowledge of material properties (polymers, rubbers, cross-link)
Strong technical writing — clear data sheets, test reports, and specifications
Collaborative and interpersonally sharp; earns trust quickly with experienced colleagues on a senior cross-functional team
Self-starter; manages multiple priorities with minimal supervision
Preferred: wire & cable or electrical products experience; familiarity with UL, CSA, ICEA standards; ERP systems
Embrace Direct Wire’s core values: Be a Great Person, Serve Your Customers Well, Do Great Work & Be a Great Teammate.
