Robotics System Engineer
About Analog Devices
Analog Devices (ADI) is launching an exciting new initiative — the Emerging Tech Hub — a physical space where customers, partners, and academic collaborators can rapidly prototype solutions tailored to their unique challenges. We are seeking a Robotic System Engineer to contribute to the design, development, and integration of robotics hardware for prototype systems. In this role, you will work with broad direction on scoped projects, supporting hardware implementation, subsystem integration, testing, and documentation for robotic platforms, sensors, and control systems. You will collaborate with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to help bring robotic solutions from concept to functional prototypes.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Development: Contribute to the design and prototyping of hardware and subsystem assemblies for robotic platforms, sensors, actuators, and control systems.
PCB Design and Bring-Up: Support the design, development, and initial bring-up of custom PCB assemblies using standard hardware design practices.
Component and Subsystem Evaluation: Evaluate components, subsystems, materials, and processes to support prototype performance, reliability, and cost targets.
System Integration: Integrate processors, sensors, actuators, and related hardware into prototype robotic systems with guidance on more complex assignments.
Testing and Validation: Execute hardware validation, calibration, and debugging activities to verify system performance and integrity.
Troubleshooting: Analyze and resolve electrical, mechanical, and thermal issues encountered during development and integration.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical, software, and AI teams to support hardware and software integration.
Prototype Execution: Support rapid prototyping efforts for customer, partner, and research use cases by translating technical requirements into working hardware solutions.
Documentation: Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, test results, assembly instructions, and design notes.
Technical Growth: Stay current with developments in robotics hardware, embedded systems, sensors, and related engineering tools.
Must Have Skills
Robotics and System Fundamentals: Working knowledge of robotic systems, including sensors, actuators, control concepts, and electro-mechanical integration.
Hardware Design Fundamentals: Experience with circuit design, PCB development workflows, and system-level hardware integration.
Embedded Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with microcontrollers, embedded systems, and real-time control fundamentals.
Programming Capability: Proficiency in C++ and Python for testing, integration, and hardware-related development tasks.
Debugging and Validation Skills: Experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related debugging tools.
Problem Solving: Ability to solve moderately complex technical problems independently and seek guidance on more complex assignments.
Collaboration: Strong ability to work effectively across disciplines in a fast-paced prototyping environment.
Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document work and explain technical concepts to teammates.
Preferred Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and 2+ years of related experience.
2–5 years of relevant experience in robotics, electro-mechanical systems, hardware integration, or prototype development.
Familiarity with PCB design tools such as Cadence Allegro or similar platforms.
Exposure to robotics software frameworks such as ROS2.
Experience with robotic control systems, kinematics, or motion planning.
Exposure to AI or machine learning-enabled systems.
We recognize that candidates may not meet every listed requirement. If you bring relevant experience and a willingness to learn, we encourage you to apply.
