Role Description This full-time, on-site Roadway Design Engineer role is based in the San Antonio area and focuses on the planning and design of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects. The Roadway Design Engineer will prepare roadway plans, profiles, cross sections, and details, and develop geometric layouts, alignments, and traffic control plans in accordance with applicable standards and guidelines. Daily responsibilities include performing design calculations, modeling roadway corridors, coordinating with CAD technicians, and reviewing drawings for accuracy and constructability. The role involves collaborating with project managers, other engineering disciplines, and external stakeholders to support project schedules, budgets, and quality requirements. The engineer will also assist with quantity take-offs, cost estimates, technical reports, and responses to review comments, while supporting permitting and construction-phase services as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and PE license in Texas or ability to obtain is a plus.
Familiarity with state and local roadway design standards, such as TxDOT design manuals and guidelines.
Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work in an on-site, team-based environment.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. 3-8 years of experience in the field of transportation engineering
Demonstrated proficiency in MicroStation, GEOPAK, and Open Roads Designer (ORD)
Experience with project collaboration software is preferred (e.g., ProjectWise)
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
Project experience applying County, City, TxDOT, and AASHTO guidelines
A strong work ethic and attention to detail
