Summary
The RF/Microwave Development Engineer plays a key role in supporting XMA's vision by developing innovative RF and microwave products from concept through production. This position is responsible for the design, analysis, testing, and optimization of passive RF components, including attenuators, terminations, power dividers, and couplers, across military, commercial, and satellite applications. The role ensures designs are technically sound, manufacturable, and scalable for production.
Success is measured by the timely development of high-performance products that meet customer requirements, quality standards, and business objectives. The RF/Microwave Development Engineer contributes to XMA's growth by driving innovation, supporting new product introductions, solving complex technical challenges, and helping bring competitive RF solutions to market.
Essential Functions
Lead the development and productization of RF/microwave components, translating design concepts into manufacturable, scalable products while ensuring compliance with performance, quality, and cost objectives.
Validate and optimize passive RF products including attenuators, terminations, power dividers, and couplers across military, commercial, satellite, space, cryogenic, and high-frequency applications.
Develop and execute RF test and validation plans utilizing network analyzers, power measurement systems, and other laboratory equipment to verify product performance and reliability.
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to support new product introduction (NPI), design transfer, and successful production implementation.
Create, maintain, and review engineering documentation including drawings, work instructions, acceptance test procedures (ATPs), qualification test procedures (QTPs), failure analysis reports, and process documentation.
Utilize engineering design tools, including SolidWorks and AutoCAD, to support product development, mechanical packaging, and design verification activities.
Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles and support process development, root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, yield, and reliability.
Provide hands-on technical support for prototype builds, product testing, tuning, troubleshooting, and manufacturing activities while mentoring technicians on assembly and test best practices.
Collect, analyze, and interpret technical data to support product development, performance improvements, and informed engineering decision-making.
Support strategic product development initiatives and cross-functional projects that contribute to XMA's growth, innovation, and competitive position in the RF/microwave marketplace.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, the incumbent must be able to build and maintain effective and credible relationships with key stakeholders across all areas of the business.
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office, engineering laboratory, and manufacturing environment. The role regularly interacts with engineering, production, and quality personnel and utilizes standard office equipment, engineering software, and RF test instrumentation. Occasional exposure to manufacturing and laboratory environments is required to support product development, testing, and production activities.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, communicate, and use hands to operate equipment and computers. The role may require occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, extended periods of computer work, and hands-on use of laboratory and test equipment. The employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, fumes, airborne particles, and moderate noise levels when working in laboratory or manufacturing areas.
Hours of Work
Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
XMA operates on a 9/80 schedule: nine hours Monday through Thursday, eight hours on Friday, with every other Friday off.
Travel
This position requires approximately 10% travel, consisting of a combination of local and overnight travel. Travel may be required to support customer visits, supplier meetings, industry events, training opportunities, and other business-related activities.
Required Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, and/or a minimum of three (3) years of experience in RF/microwave engineering, product development, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience utilizing network analyzers and measuring S-parameters for RF/microwave testing and validation.
• Working knowledge of Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) and its application as a troubleshooting and diagnostic tool.
• Understanding of mechanical design principles and packaging techniques used in RF/microwave product development.
• Knowledge of thin-film manufacturing processes, including sputtering, photolithography, and etching.
• Experience supporting RF/microwave product development activities, including design verification, circuit and system validation, product integration, and testing; millimeter-wave experience preferred.
• Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI), design transfer, and transitioning products from development into manufacturing.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret technical data for reporting and decision-making purposes.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of plating processes, materials science, and related manufacturing techniques preferred.
• Experience working within an AS9100 quality management system (QMS) environment preferred.
