Job Summary:
This position focuses on R&D activities for the Packaged AC team including designing and prototyping new concepts and designs, advanced development, and future innovation for these product categories. The role involves collaboration with international teams, product planning, testing, and travel. This position is full-time and fully on-site. Some domestic and international travel is required.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Collaborate with international R&D team regarding product design, problem-solving, and new concept development
Participate in weekly R&D calls with international design team and follow up on action items
Take a hands-on approach in advanced development and prototyping to prove feasibility
Contribute to the intellectual property strategy and roadmap for these product families
Lead competitive analysis and teardowns including technology offerings, features, performance data
Recommend product improvements, new features based on product feedback, reviews, and consumer research
Potentially help lead university research projects
Be a major sponsor/advocate for new projects related to these product categories
Lead the project management and development of new Packaged AC product innovation
Work independently and with a small team to recommend product improvements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
3-5 years experience in research and development, ideally in retail AC or HVAC sectors
Prior experience as a home appliances R&D co-op, preferably with Midea
Previous experience with component and system level reliability testing
Previous experience with refrigerant simulation modeling systems from CEEE and DSIMAC
Previous experience with FEA and CFD analysis
Prior experience in product design and prototyping
Prior experience in residential air conditioning advanced development setting, working with University Consortiums: CIBS, KU EARTH, UIUC ACRC
Experience collaborating with international teams
Preferred qualifications:
Master’s degree in engineering
History of working with global colleagues
Prior co-op rotations at Midea strongly preferred
Packaged terminal air conditioner experience strongly preferred
