We are seeking a hands-on, cross-functional R&D Composites Engineer (Generalist) to join our Advanced Technology team, supporting new development projects. This role is ideal for a self-starter with a passion for materials innovation, rapid prototyping, and getting ideas into real-world hardware. You will work across materials research, tooling, testing, and manufacturing development to accelerate breakthrough composite technologies. You will collaborate with various internal functional groups and outside entities, such as research institutions and suppliers.

The engineer should be self-driven, resourceful and highly collaborative. An ability to manage multiple projects within time constraints is required.

What YOU Will Do

Composite Part Design and Manufacturing
Design composite parts for R&D and technology demonstrators
Design and build tooling and fixtures for rapid prototyping
Create CAD models and engineering documentation
Fabricate tooling using additive manufacturing, CNC machining, and composite layup methods
Fabricate composite parts using automated and manual composite lay-up processes
Plan and perform testing, and iterate design based on test results
Generate test plan, test report, technical memos, and design recommendations
Project & Supplier Management
Coordinate R&D builds, material ordering, trials and schedules
Manage vendors, suppliers and external technology partners
Support team initiatives and resource planning

What YOU Must Bring To Succeed

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
Proficiency in CAD modelling (E.g. Solidworks, NX, CATIA, or equivalent) and familiarity with mechanical testing
Desire to work hands-on in lab and pilot manufacturing environments
This position involves access to export-controlled technology which requires U.S. Person status or government authorization. A ‘U.S. Person,’ as defined by 22 C.F.R.
120.62, includes U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, individuals lawfully admitted for permanent residence (green card holders), and individuals granted asylum or refugee status in the United States. To be considered for this position, you must either be a U.S. Person or fall within a legally recognized export control exception or authorization. If hired, you will be required to provide valid proof of such status.

Desired Characteristics

Experience in tooling fabrication processes
Familiarity with common composite fabrication techniques
Background in rapid prototyping and R&D environments
Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, or other automation tools

Estimate salary range for this role: $64,400 to $95,900 per year. ST Engineering MRAS considers several factors with extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, education/training/certification, job level, and work location. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
