At Guac, we're solving grocery food waste with AI. We forecast exactly how much of each product will sell, helping grocery retailers order and produce the perfect amount of inventory — and we're building AI-native tools that put those forecasts directly into the hands of store operators and buyers.
The grocery industry is enormous (it accounts for 4% of GDP) — and grocery food waste is a huge cost to grocers' bottom lines, but also to our planet.

Today, we're working with major supermarket chains in the US and Canada, and we've scaled to 7-figures in ARR. We're backed by leading investors including Y Combinator, 1984 Ventures, Collaborative Fund, and angels from Open AI, Instacart, and Citadel Securities.

We've brought together an exceptional team from Palantir, BCG, Oxford, Cambridge, and MIT to solve intellectually challenging problems and tackle food insecurity and waste with technology.

We're looking for a QA Engineer to own quality and testing across our web and mobile products on an initial 3–4 month contract, with potential to extend.

About the Role

As our first dedicated QA hire, you'll shape how quality works at Guac. Your responsibilities will include:

Review requirements and designs for new features, write thorough test plans, and execute them before launch
Own the regression testing process ahead of each release across our React/Next.js web app and React Native mobile app
Write clear, reproducible bug reports and drive defects through to resolution
Lead the buildout of our automated end-to-end test suite, progressively replacing manual regression with reliable automation
Write and maintain API-level tests to validate backend integrations
Use AI tools to accelerate test authoring, surface edge cases, and improve coverage

About You

3+ years of QA experience on web and/or mobile applications
Strong ability to write thorough test plans and reproducible bug reports from requirements or designs
Experience with test automation frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, Detox, Maestro, or similar) — you've built suites from scratch before
Experience with API testing (Postman, REST Assured, or similar)
Comfortable working async with minimal supervision
Available during core ET business hours when needed e.g. during release cycles (10am–6pm ET)
(Bonus) Experience with our stack: Playwright, Jest, Maestro, React/Next.js, React Native
(Bonus) Experience testing logistics, supply chain, grocery, or fulfillment software
(Bonus) Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI) and SQL for data validation
(Bonus) Daily use of AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot) to ship faster

Engagement

Independent contractor, ~20 hours/week
Initial 3–4 month contract with strong potential to extend in duration or expand in hours
Remote, flexible, with at least partial availability during core ET hours
Open to candidates outside the US
