Propulsion Systems Test Engineer
Location: Leander, Texas (Onsite)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: Approximately $150,000 annually
Overview
An advanced defense technology organization is seeking a Propulsion Systems Test Engineer to support the development, integration, and execution of propulsion and ballistic testing systems for next-generation aerospace and autonomous platforms.
This is a highly hands-on engineering role focused on propulsion testing, hardware integration, instrumentation, and rapid iteration in a fast-paced development environment. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, experience supporting propulsion or aerospace testing activities, and the ability to move quickly from design through real-world execution.
Key Responsibilities
Design and operate propulsion test rigs, ballistic test setups, and support hardware
Develop and execute static fire and propulsion characterization test plans
Support ground and flight test campaigns, including hardware integration and troubleshooting
Create and modify CAD models, fixtures, and mechanical assemblies
Configure and operate DAQ systems, instrumentation, and sensor integrations
Work with pressure transducers, load cells, strain gauges, thermocouples, and optical measurement systems
Perform data analysis, post-test reporting, and testing documentation
Develop work instructions, safety procedures, and technical documentation
Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams during fabrication, assembly, and testing activities
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
3–5+ years of experience in propulsion testing, aerospace testing, mechanical test engineering, or similar hands-on hardware environments
Proficiency with CAD platforms such as SolidWorks, Onshape, or equivalent tools
Experience with instrumentation systems, sensors, and DAQ systems
Familiarity with electrical systems, wiring, mechanical assembly, fabrication, and hardware integration
Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and hands-on troubleshooting skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with solid rocket motors, propulsion systems, energetics handling, or cure cycles
Experience working in clean room environments
Experience with high-speed data acquisition systems
Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, or Python
Welding, machining, or fabrication experience
Aerospace or defense industry background
Additional Requirements
Must meet ITAR requirements (U.S. Citizen, Green Card holder, or eligible status)
Ability to work onsite in Leander, TX
