Our client, a rapidly growing custom machine builder, is seeking a skilled and motivated Project Engineer to join their expanding engineering team in the Holland, Michigan area. As the Project Engineer, you will lead the technical execution of complex capital equipment projects, ensuring systems are designed, built, and delivered according to customer specifications, quality standards, and project timelines.
Responsibilities
Take technical ownership of projects from order handoff through final shipment
Serve as the primary technical resource for assigned liquid processing and packaging projects
Interpret and execute project scope, customer requirements, and system performance expectations
Lead and review engineering deliverables including:
Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
System layouts and equipment integration drawings
Provide technical direction for equipment design and system functionality
Support component selection and review vendor submittals for technical compliance
Collaborate closely with Project Management, fabrication, procurement, and production teams
Assist with testing, troubleshooting, installation, and commissioning activities
Support customer-facing technical discussions throughout the project lifecycle
Contribute to scope change evaluations and technical problem-solving efforts

Job Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical field
Minimum of 5 years of Project Engineering experience
Background in capital equipment, industrial manufacturing, liquid processing, packaging systems, or automation environments
Experience developing and interpreting PFDs, P&IDs, and technical engineering documentation
Proficiency with CAD software including AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar platforms
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, process equipment, and manufacturing workflows
Ability to manage multiple technical priorities in a fast-paced project environment
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Experience
Experience with custom machine building or engineered-to-order equipment
Exposure to process automation or integrated manufacturing systems
Familiarity with fabrication, assembly, or commissioning activities
Experience supporting customer installations or startup activities
Knowledge of liquid handling, sanitary processing, or packaging equipment design
Ability to work directly with suppliers and customers on technical matters
