About the Opportunity
Our client is an established commercial general contractor with a national footprint across retail, grocery, and ground-up construction. The Project Engineer role is a high-visibility position partnering directly with senior field and office leadership on active projects. Employer identity disclosed under NDA upon mutual interest.

Position Summary
The Project Engineer is the right hand to the Project Manager (PM) and Superintendent, supporting day-to-day execution across active commercial construction projects. The role acts as a central communication point between the project owner, the subcontractor base, and the contractor's field and office teams — keeping the project moving safely, accurately, and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities
Owns the project procurement log — establishes, maintains, and keeps it current throughout the project lifecycle.
Executes against the project's strategic plan and the broader construction team's goals.
Maintains the project drawing log within the contractor's project management platform, working from construction-issue document sets. Keeps the field team supplied with current plans, specifications, supplemental information, and submittals at all times.
Partners with the PM and Superintendent on monthly project schedule preparation, updates, and distribution. Maintains the working schedule under the oversight of the Senior Project Engineer, PM, and Superintendent.
Quality Control:
Confirms with the Superintendent that approved, specified materials are being installed on-site.
Coordinates and leads the initial work-in-place review and the preconstruction QA/QC kickoff meeting; documents results in the project management platform.
Drives implementation and tracking of the QA/QC plan across the full project lifecycle.
Owns the Request for Information (RFI) process end-to-end — initiates, logs, routes, tracks, and closes all RFIs from the field, subcontractors, and suppliers; maintains an accurate, current log tied to the contract documents.
Initiates and manages all change-document processes including Architect's Supplemental Information (ASI), Construction Change Directives (CCD), and Requests for Pricing (RFP); logs and tracks all change documents in the project management platform.
Reviews shop drawings in partnership with the Superintendent.
Tracks subcontractor lead times and design-team review cycles to protect the project schedule.
Participates in Superintendent / PM / PE / Architect / Owner project walk-throughs and drives punch list development and resolution.
Project Close-Out:
Maintains the Project Record Set of drawings.
Coordinates the field As-Built drawing set with the Superintendent.
Builds and maintains the project photo documentation library.
Assembles owner training documentation, O&M manuals, and subcontractor warranties;
Owns meeting minutes — creation, maintenance, and distribution.
Significant on-site time at project locations is expected, aligned with schedule needs.
Performs additional position-appropriate duties as assigned, in a professional and team-oriented manner.

Working understanding of the technical and business fundamentals of construction project management and documentation.
Foundational analytical skills.
Proficiency in industry standard platforms including the leading project management system, plan-markup software, and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with construction-accounting and project-scheduling software is a plus.

Proffered Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field — OR — 1+ years of directly relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
Minimum 1 year of project engineering or construction support experience.
