Role Overview

The Senior Project Engineer, under general guidance, directs or performs engineering assignments of major size or complexity and makes independent decisions on engineering problems and methods. The role combines project engineering leadership with advanced technical expertise in generating station systems.

You will be responsible for managing project budgets, schedules, lifecycle activities, and technical execution while serving as a subject matter expert in critical generation systems and reliability requirements.

The role requires a strong understanding of generation system behavior, equipment performance, and compliance requirements within utility-scale power plants.

Core Responsibilities:

Project Engineering & Management
Lead end-to-end project execution from scope development through commissioning
Manage budgets, schedules, funding requests, and appropriations
Develop technical specifications, scoping documents, and purchase specifications
Serve as primary interface with vendors and contractors
Evaluate bids, review submittals, and oversee contract deliverables
Maintain project documentation including status reporting and financial tracking

Technical Expertise & Design Engineering
Maintain strict design basis discipline across all project phases
Evaluate and design solutions for new and refurbishment projects
Perform technical and economic analyses and feasibility studies
Provide engineering justification for equipment replacement and upgrades
Conduct cross-discipline drawing and work package reviews (electrical, mechanical, I&C)
Recommend design improvements and approve field design changes when required
Support resolution of complex engineering issues at generating station sites

Risk Identification & Process Improvement
Proactively identify and escalate engineering risks, scope gaps, and ambiguities early
Participate in peer reviews of engineering and removal packages
Reinforce design basis understanding and quality assurance practices
Drive continuous improvement in engineering workflows, documentation standards, and lessons learned

Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination
Collaborate with Steam & Gas Engineering working groups, Operations, and maintenance teams
Coordinate across electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and civil disciplines
Align technical solutions with operational requirements and system constraints
Communicate technical findings and project updates to management and stakeholders
Support field engineering activities and plant site visits

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (8+ years) or Master’s degree (6+ years)
Experience in utility, power generation, or heavy industrial environments
Strong knowledge of generation systems, equipment testing, and reliability standards
Proven experience in project engineering and lifecycle management
Ability to work across multi-discipline engineering teams
Familiarity with NFPA, IEEE, and utility engineering standards preferred
Experience supporting NERC compliance activities preferred
PE license preferred
