Job Purpose
Product Durability Test Engineer ensures ATV/SxS products meet Honda’s quality, reliability, and customer expectations by planning and executing prototype durability tests, coordinating root-cause investigations, and effectively communicating across the development team.
Key Accountabilities
Durability Test management & execution
Manage and coordinate vehicle durability testing based on development contents and test requirements. Define durability necessity based on development change points. Identify, analyse, summarize & communicate test problems/concerns/results to development team.
Pre-Test: Create overall test schedule considering project milestones and resource availability. Manage assembly of prototype test vehicle, perform pre- test inspections and coordinate team inspection events
Test Execution: Operate data acquisition equipment, including set up, instrumentation, data retrieval and analysis.
Complete daily vehicle inspection, ride test vehicle following defined test standards, monitor test course conditions, complete daily test summary documents.
Monitor that the test is being run safely and accurately and take action as needed.
Post-Test: Coordinate/schedule post-test inspection activity, developmen team check events, vehicle tear down. Concisely and accurately summarize findings.
Facilitate root-cause analysis and countermeasure activity with development team. Report test results clearly at team technical evaluation.
General operation Maintain test lab, test equipment and tools; minimize downtime, maintain cleanliness, and keep safe/organized working area.
Coordinate internal/external test facility needs, including test scheduling, arranging maintenance & repair requests, and monitoring test course conditions for accuracy/safety.
Manage test part retention and destruction standards.
Support periodic lab safety audits. Propose and implement improvements to enhance safety.
Generate improvement ideas/proposals and lead execution
Support market quality themes. Utilize problem-solving methods to investigate root causes. Advance and implement C/M specs as necessary.
Generate basic ideas that contribute to the evolution of new technologies. Support maturation of ideas to prepare for development applications with minimal supervision
Qualifications, Experience, And Skills
Minimum Educational Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum Experience - Engineering experience desired, preferably in Power Sports industry
Other Job-Specific Skills
ATV/SxS riding experience is highly desired
Capable data acquisition and laboratory skills/techniques
Capable mechanical skills, troubleshooting, problem solving, decision-making, and prioritization
Capable understanding of development project cycles, milestones Capable in FTA, FMEA
Competent in written and oral communication
Competent analytical, problem solving, judgement, decision-making and prioritization
Competent in creating a plan and schedule
Competent time management skills
Must maintain a high level of confidentiality
Working Conditions
Travel: Up to 15% may be required. Amount varies based on project demands/responsibilities, conferences,
etc.; includes possible overseas travel.
Physical: Primarily at a desk, some work in a lab and/or test vehicle, frequent keyboarding. Frequent kneeling, standing, reaching, squatting, bending, pushing and lifting. Some physical effort required (pushing 50+ pounds; lifting 25–50 pounds).
Hazards: Risks found in a typical office & shop setting. Exposure to explosives/flammables, pressurized equipment, toxic chemicals and moving parts.
Overtime: Overtime expected based on project demands/responsibilities.
Maintains professional conduct and follows all departmental, safety DEPARTMENT, and COMPANY policies,
Procedures, AND rules.
