Core Responsibilities
Lead Design & Engineering: Act as a primary individual contributor and local new product development expert. Generate original designs, act as a sounding board for other team engineers, and collaborate with external vendors and design teams on high-complexity mechanical designs.
Global Sourcing: Manage technical communications with domestic and overseas vendors. Oversee design validation, sampling, tooling, and production quality standards for original and outsourced designs.
Business Case Development: Ensure all design projects meet specified margin and retail price targets. Help direct department resources to projects with greatest potential ROI.
Hands-on Validation: Perform vehicle fitment testing, performance validation, and installation in the shop. You are the final sign-off on production readiness.
Product Roll-out: Coordinate with marketing and sales to provide technical data, installation guides, and specifications for new product launches.
Technical Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve design or manufacturing defects in existing product lines based on customer feedback.
Requirements
Experience: 2–10 years of professional mechanical product development, ideally within the automotive aftermarket.
Sourcing: Proven track record of coordinating with overseas manufacturing relationships.
Technical Skills: History of owning the design and development of mechanical consumer products and proven success of taking them from idea to market.
Shop Capability: Ability to personally perform vehicle tear-downs, prototype installations, and test-fitments.
