Description
Invent the future with us.
Ampere is a semiconductor design company for a new era, leading the future of computing with an innovative approach to CPU design focused on high-performance, energy efficient AI compute.
As a pioneer in the new frontier of energy efficient high-performance computing, Ampere is part of the Softbank Group of companies driving sustainable computing for AI, Cloud, and edge applications.
Join us at Ampere and work alongside a passionate and growing team - we’d love to have you apply!
About The Role
This position is for a Principal Silicon Validation Engineer within the Silicon Validation Engineering team, supporting Ampere’s AI Compute family. The engineer will test, qualify, and improve bare-metal validation framework used for CPU/Mesh, SoC, and platform validation across emulation and post-silicon environments.
The role owns regression strategy, test automation, CI/CD integration, results analysis, and first-level failure triage. The engineer will ensure validation processes, traceability, documentation, and test evidence meet strict ISO 26262 functional-safety and high-quality engineering requirements up to ASIL-D, where applicable
What You'll Achieve
Develop test plans, automated regression suites, and validation strategies for the bare-metal framework.
Create and execute functional, negative, stress, robustness, fault-injection, and regression tests across simulation, emulation, FPGA, and post-silicon environments.
Validate framework execution, build/load/boot flows, CPU and memory features, interrupts, timers, coherency, power/reset, error handling, recovery, and multicore configurations.
Own regression execution, monitoring, metrics, CI/CD pipelines, test artifacts, and reporting.
Perform first-level triage; reproduce and classify failures across test, framework, firmware, hardware, configuration, and lab infrastructure.
Develop automation for test execution, log collection, result analysis, failure classification, and reporting.
Maintain reproducible test configurations, tool versions, artifacts, requirements traceability, and objective verification evidence.
Support ISO 26262-aligned requirements-based testing, safety-mechanism validation, fault handling, diagnostic testing, and review/audit readiness up to ASIL-D.
Improve logging, diagnostics, assertions, timeouts, health checks, and failure signatures; identify and resolve flaky tests.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on testability, debug, framework improvements, defect resolution, and platform bring-up
About You
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
8+ years of experience in validation, test automation, firmware/system testing, or functional safety
Strong experience in validation, test automation, firmware/system testing, or hardware/software integration.
Strong Python, C, or C++ programming, scripting, and AI Coding skills.
Experience building automated test infrastructure, regression suites, and CI/CD workflows.
Experience with test planning, requirements-based testing, defect tracking, result analysis, and reporting.
Experience with ISO 26262 or similar safety-critical standards; ASIL-D validation experience is strongly preferred.
Understanding of traceability, configuration/change management, anomaly management, verification evidence, and safety-quality processes.
Experience with Linux, Git, build systems, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
Familiarity with bare-metal software, firmware, boot flows, ARMv8/AArch64 or Cortex-M/R Series Controllers, and CPU/SoC concepts including caches, MMU, interrupts, timers, coherency, exceptions, reset, and power.
Experience analyzing logs, firmware traces, register dumps, crashes, and test results.
Familiarity with DSTREAM, Trace32, OpenOCD, GDB, JTAG, simulation, emulation, FPGA, post-silicon bring-up, or lab automation is a plus.
Strong ownership, attention to detail, communication, and systematic debugging skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with bare-metal test frameworks, CPU/Mesh/SoC validation, boot firmware, or post-silicon bring-up.
Experience with safety mechanisms, fault injection, diagnostic coverage, safety evidence, assessments, or audits.
Experience with requirements/test-management tools such as Jira, Polarion, Codebeamer, or TestRail.
Experience owning hardware or firmware regression infrastructure and resolving flaky or intermittent failures.
