TAMPA MICROWAVE primarily serves Federal and Department of Defense customers, supporting demanding field and tactical applications. Team members collaborate closely with end users and partners to deliver advanced satellite communication systems that meet strict performance and reliability standards.
Role Description The Principal Radio Frequency (RF) Design Engineer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Clearwater, FL. This role is responsible for leading the design, development, and optimization of RF and microwave circuits and subsystems used in satellite communication terminals. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating RF architectures, performing detailed simulations and analyses, selecting components, developing schematics, and supporting layout for high-frequency designs. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate RF designs into complete systems, perform lab testing, troubleshoot performance issues, and support product validation and qualification. Additional tasks include mentoring other engineers, preparing technical documentation, participating in design reviews, and supporting continuous improvement of design processes and best practices.
Qualifications
Strong RF and microwave engineering skills, including circuit design, simulation, analysis, and testing of amplifiers, filters, mixers, and related components.
Experience with satellite communications, including RF front-end design, link budgets, and system-level performance optimization for rugged field environments.
Proficiency with industry-standard RF design and simulation tools (e.g., ADS, HFSS, Microwave Office) and PCB layout tools suited for high-frequency designs.
Hands-on experience with RF lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, and related test fixtures and measurement techniques.
Solid understanding of electromagnetic principles, RF propagation, impedance matching, noise, linearity, and practical considerations for manufacturability and reliability.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in RF or Microwave Engineering is preferred.
Experience working on defense or aerospace systems and familiarity with relevant standards and qualification processes is highly beneficial.
Ability to document designs clearly, communicate complex technical concepts, collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, and mentor less-experienced engineers.
