Principal Engineer- Electronics Engineering
Knowledge of Hardware testing and product approval along with knowhow of firmware & software development & testing
1. Role Purpose
will lead a multidisciplinary engineering group responsible for the end-to-end verification and compliance of electronic products. The role integrates hardware design, embedded firmware, product software, system testing, laboratory activities and product approval to deliver safe, reliable, compliant and commercially viable products.
The position combines technical leadership, people management, program execution and global stakeholder coordination. The manager will establish engineering priorities, build team capability, ensure disciplined development processes and drive timely delivery from concept through product release and lifecycle support.

2. Key Accountabilities
Engineering Leadership & Organization
Lead, coach and develop multidisciplinary teams across hardware, firmware, software, testing and product approval.
Define competency requirements, workforce plans, role clarity and succession pipelines for the engineering group.
Set annual objectives, operating priorities and measurable performance indicators aligned with business and R&D goals.
Promote a culture of technical rigor, ownership, collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
Testing, Validation & Laboratory Management
Define product verification and validation strategies covering functional, system, integration, performance, reliability, environmental, electrical safety and EMC-related testing.
Manage laboratory capacity, equipment readiness, calibration, test methods, sample planning, technical reporting and turnaround time.
Oversee design verification testing, failure analysis, root-cause investigation, corrective actions and customer complaint support.
Improve test coverage and efficiency through automation, reusable test platforms and data-driven analysis.
Firmware & Software Engineering
Lead embedded firmware and product software development using defined architecture, coding, review, configuration and release practices.
Oversee requirements traceability, interface definition, debugging, version control, build management and software integration.
Drive appropriate use of automated testing, continuous integration and secure development practices.
Ensure controlled handling of defects, technical debt, releases and product lifecycle updates.
Product Approval & Regulatory Compliance
Coordinate approvals with certification bodies and accredited laboratories for applicable frameworks such as UL, CSA, IEC, CE, UKCA, VDE, ATEX and IECEx.
Ensure availability and integrity of technical files, declarations, test evidence, certificates, approval drawings and compliance records.
Assess the compliance impact of new designs, component changes, product modifications, transfers and obsolescence.
Program, Budget & Stakeholder Management
Plan engineering resources, project schedules, laboratory investments, external testing costs and operating budgets.
Provide transparent reporting on delivery, quality, risks, capacity, cost and certification status to management.
Work closely with global R&D, product management, quality, manufacturing, sourcing, service and external partners.
Escalate critical technical or compliance risks with clear options, impact assessment and recommended actions.

3. Decision-Making Authority
Recommend and allocate engineering resources within approved plans and priorities.
Approve technical reviews, verification readiness and engineering deliverables within the defined governance framework.
Stop or escalate development, testing or release activities when product safety, quality or compliance is at risk.
Select appropriate development methods, test strategies and external laboratory support within delegated authority.
Recommend investments in tools, laboratory equipment, automation and competency development.

4. Required Qualifications & Experience:
Education :
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Embedded Systems, Computer, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline.
Experience :
Typically 12+ years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a people-management or engineering-leadership role.
Product development :
Demonstrated experience delivering electronic products through requirements, design, verification, release and lifecycle change.
Global collaboration :
Experience working with cross-functional and geographically distributed engineering, quality, manufacturing and product teams.
Compliance :
Practical exposure to product safety, EMC, environmental and market-access requirements, including coordination with external approval agencies or laboratories.
Management :
Experience in capacity planning, project governance, budgeting, performance management and competency development.

5. Technical Knowledge & Competencies
Product approval
Certification planning, technical documentation and coordination for applicable UL, CSA, IEC, CE, UKCA, VDE, ATEX or IECEx requirements.
Verification & validation
Requirements-based testing, system integration, functional testing, reliability, environmental testing, EMC/safety awareness, test automation and failure analysis.
Embedded firmware
Embedded C/C++, microcontrollers, RTOS concepts, peripherals, communication protocols, debugging and release control.
Product software
Software architecture fundamentals, application development, interfaces, configuration management, DevOps/CI-CD concepts and defect management.
Engineering methods
Systems thinking, risk management, design reviews, root-cause analysis, configuration/change control, Agile or stage-gate development and continuous improvement.
