A growing and innovative engineering company in the Greater Boston area is looking for a Principal Power Electronics Engineer to join a small, highly collaborative design team. This is a full-time opportunity focused on advanced electrical hardware, power electronics, embedded systems, and PCB-level design. You’ll work on products from initial concept through production, giving you significant ownership and exposure across the entire engineering lifecycle.
This is a great opportunity for a hands-on Electrical Engineer who wants more than a narrowly defined role. You’ll have the chance to own projects, design power supplies and PWM amplifiers, work with microprocessors and FPGAs, build and troubleshoot prototypes, and see your designs move from the lab into production. Because the team is small, your technical input will have a direct impact, and you’ll gain broad experience across power electronics, controls, embedded programming, PCB design, simulation, and hardware development.
Required Skills & Experience
B.S. in Electrical Engineering required; advanced degree preferred
8-10+ years of direct, PCB-level electrical design experience
Strong power electronics and converter topology knowledge
Experience designing PWM amplifiers and power supplies
Experience across the PCB design flow, including specifications, schematic capture, DFM/DFT, and layout
Embedded programming experience with microprocessors and/or FPGAs
Experience with LTSpice or similar circuit simulation tools
Strong hands-on laboratory and hardware troubleshooting experience
Experience using oscilloscopes, function generators, multimeters, and power analyzers
Desired Skills & Experience
Control theory experience
Magnetics design experience
High-efficiency power supply design
Experience taking hardware from concept through production
Strong understanding of embedded hardware/software integration
Experience working in a small engineering or R&D environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Self-driven approach with the ability to work independently
What You Will Be Doing
Tech Breakdown
30% Power Electronics / Converter & Power Supply Design
20% PCB-Level Circuit Design
15% Embedded Microprocessor & FPGA Integration
15% PWM Amplifier & Control Systems Design
10% Circuit Simulation / LTSpice
10% Prototype Development & Hardware Troubleshooting
Daily Responsibilities
35% Hands-On Hardware Design, Testing & Troubleshooting
25% New Product / Circuit Development
20% Prototype Build, Lab Testing & Validation
20% Team Collaboration & Technical Communication
The Offer
Full-time opportunity
Opportunity to own projects from concept through production
Work within a small, collaborative engineering team
