GridBlock
Power Electronics Engineer
Atlanta, Georgia
GridBlock is an innovative energy router that dynamically manages the flow of energy between multiple sources and loads and has the ability to create and operate a self-contained microgrid. GridBlock packetizes and routes electrical energy with isolation and high accuracy to serve AC or DC systems seamlessly. The precision technology enables a bidirectional power flow on multiple ports or channels concurrently, bringing the flexibility and control of Internet routers and switches to the electrical grid.
Increasingly, electrical installations require smart integration of EV or e-truck charging, battery storage, solar panels, and critical loads, with custom design and build for each location adding to the cost of implementation. GridBlock simplifies all of this with a flexible, software-defined, modular solution that can manage a wide variety of end-use configurations and applications, from 500kW to 100+ MW deployments.
GridBlock has an exciting opportunity for a Power Electronics Engineer. In this position, you will work directly with the research & development to support the design of cutting-edge power electronics products, as well as set up a consistent, reliable, and efficient test environment for GridBlock’s power electronics product suite.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Design Advanced power electronics topologies and ancillary circuits
Design hardware and test setups to support validation/verification of new power electronics prototype/product functionalities and features
Develop test cases and conduct tests for power converters (>10kW) in collaboration with the power electronics team
Develop and implement test automation for consistent, reliable, and efficient testing
Support test requirements and protocols for factory testing during product assembly
Design and test new power topologies, power semiconductor modules, and power technologies
Support simulation and modeling efforts
Report, organize, and analyze test results with the power electronics team
Support test plans and execution for certification purposes
Skills & Requirements
BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (required)
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (preferred)
Strong knowledge of power electronics systems working principles, including AC/DC, DC/AC, DC/DC, AC/AC conversion, and grid-connected converters
Knowledge of advanced power topologies, including resonant and soft-switching topologies
5+ years of relevant experience designing and testing power electronics converters, including passive elements sizing and design, switching cell optimization, controls, PCB design, test cell development, automation and implementation, and conducting tests in full autonomy
Experience with firmware writing and testing for power electronics products
Experience with high power converter testing (>10kW, 1000Vdc, 600Vac)
Experience with multi-converter module systems, including communication/synchronization
Strong hands-on testing and troubleshooting experience
Experience with testing processes for certification standards including UL1741, UL9741, IEC62109-1, IEC62109-2 is a plus
Prior experience with EMI and FCC testing will be valued
