Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Plant Engineer assists in the completion of the day-to-day activities involving the maintenance of the production equipment, ovens, incinerators and machinery used in coating steel coils. This includes process equipment, HVAC, building lighting systems, security and overall facility appearance. The position supervises and coordinates the work of employees who repair and maintain building/facility, equipment and machinery.
Duties And Responsibilities
Consults with design engineers on features needed for new or existing installation.
Prepares purchase requisitions or work orders to obtain needed tools or parts for the installation.
Coordinates staff and assist in set-up die and equipment assembly and debugging for installations to ensure on-time completion.
Lead or support capital projects, including scope development, budgeting, vendor selection, installation, and commissioning.
Coordinate maintenance activities with production to minimize downtime and maximize throughput.
Manage contractors and vendors, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards.
Support regulatory and compliance requirements (OSHA, EPA, local/state regulations).
Investigates and resolves engineering related manufacturing problems.
Compares dimensions of parts to blueprints, and resolve differences by revising or redesigning, utilizing 2D & 3D CAD tools (AutoCAD & SolidWorks) and Inventor Programs.
Assists with satellite plant installations, as needed, including set-up, assembly, problem solving and follow-up to project completion.
Analysis of data, evaluation of results and creation of technical reports, recommending further actions to be taken
Working on cross disciplinary teams to solve manufacturing problems in the field
Reporting project progress to Senior Management
Working with Tool and Die shop to develop tooling packages for production equipment
Other duties as assigned by management.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Proven experience in managing and supervising employees (i.e. Maintenance Mechanic & Electricians)
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include: the training and safety of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
3-5 years manufacturing engineering experience
Experience with mechanical design, gear design, cam design, and/or food packaging machinery design
Proficient with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor design software
Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Background in Lean/6-Sigma preferred
Prior leadership experience preferred
Understanding of the use of statistics in manufacturing
Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills required
High level of independent thinking and resourcefulness to develop and propose solutions to problems
Demonstrated leadership and management skills – managing hourly PM&R
Experience in capital project management, handling vendors and contractors
Experience in managing repair expense budgets
Experience in implementing and maintaining a plant preventative maintenance program
Demonstrated ability, experience and understanding of work orders, spare parts management systems and storeroom/spare parts processes
Ability to interface with various levels of staff from peers to management, to production employees
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
The team member is frequently required to climb or balance and talk or hear.
The team member is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The team member must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions
Generally, this position’s work duties are split between a typical office setting and the plant production floor.
While performing the duties of this job in the plant, the team member may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic
This position may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures in the plant
The noise level in the plant is frequently loud
Managing a union affiliated workforce
The Toledo plant and grounds are tobacco-free. This means that the use of tobacco of any kind will not be permitted anywhere in the building or on Crown property. This also includes prohibiting the use of any electronic cigarette devices.
