About the Role
Development: Design & develop permanent magnet (exterior, interior) servo and stepper motors. Develop existing designs in all product categories. Collaborate with the Staff Engineer, product management, and product engineers to implement strategic plans, including the development of a new product road map.
Qualifications
B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Required Skills
5–10 years of motor design experience (permanent magnet AC, brushless DC)
Experience in Rotating Electromagnetic Machines.
Hands-on mechanical and test experience with capabilities to support and troubleshoot designs throughout manufacturing.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities
Design and develop rotating machines for industrial, commercial, and specialized environments - permanent magnet servos and hybrid steppers
Magnetic circuit design (and analysis)
Mechanical design housing and packaging electric motors
Maintain timelines and budgets for development and customer projects
Management of development and regulatory compliance/certification projects
Employ best practices in magnetic circuit design; develop and enhance skills for motor/magnetic design, including independent research, skills development programs, and post-graduate coursework as approved by management.
Evaluate capital equipment and requirements; assist in development and execution of capital expenditures plan.
Collaborate with the Staff Engineer to develop engineering standards for motor design, including compliance and regulatory requirements.
Work with the Staff Engineer to develop a complete understanding of all compliance and regulatory requirements of existing products and market demands.
Collaborate on a strategy for compliance in maintaining product & component data and in completing customer requests for regulatory and compliance documentation (RoHS, REACH, CMRT, etc.).
Develop, evaluate, and improve engineering and production risk assessments & PFMEA; guide product and process improvement based on analysis.
Work with customers, product management, market trends, and all functional areas to identify, define & develop products and services. Use analysis to inform strategy and market positioning.
Evaluate manufacturing processes, guide product engineers and manufacturing through process improvements.
Provide analysis of product returns, focusing on improvements of the products in their application.
Travel as necessary to support requirements.
Assist in developing/implementing improvements for embedding these into inventory and product management systems.
Focus on continual improvement; consider efficiencies in processes, quality management, and other regulatory requirements in all activities.
Create, revise schedules, project budgets, documents, BOMs, drawings, instructions, process guidelines, best practices, etc., to support all activities.
Preferred Skills
Experience with NI LabView - communication protocols, automated process control, and data collection.
M.S. Engineering
MBA and/or equivalent experience leading a business unit or engineering team.
Project management experience; Plus: PMP or equivalent credential.
Experience with the complete product commercialization cycle (design, development, prototyping, testing, and compliance evaluation).
