Help shape the future of water resources at a growing engineering firm
Drummond Carpenter is seeking a Mid to Senior Stormwater or Water Resources Design Engineer to help lead and grow our Florida practice. This is an opportunity for an experienced professional who wants to do meaningful technical work, guide projects and staff, build trusted client relationships, and play a visible role in a small firm where their contributions truly matter.
We are looking for someone who combines strong engineering judgment with curiosity, initiative, and a collaborative mindset. The right candidate will be excited by the chance to design innovative stormwater management and civil infrastructure projects while also involved in watershed planning, flood mitigation, green infrastructure, water quality, and environmental permitting, while helping expand our capabilities and reputation in the marketplace.
Why Drummond Carpenter

While headquartered in Maitland/Orlando, we support projects nationwide that address some of the country’s most important environmental challenges, from climate adaptation and resilient infrastructure to water quality protection and sustainable systems planning.
As a smaller firm (less than 50 employees), we offer something larger organizations often cannot: direct access to leadership, meaningful responsibility, a highly collaborative environment, and the ability to grow your career without being siloed. Our staff work closely with leadership, technical experts, and public-sector clients. We value strong technical work, professional development, and a culture that supports both professional achievement and personal well-being.
What you will do
In this role, you will lead and contribute to a broad range of water resources and stormwater projects for municipal, state, and federal clients. Depending on your background and interests, your work may include:
Managing projects, client relationships, and technical teams
Designing and implementing stormwater and civil infrastructure solutions for the built environment
Mentoring junior engineers and technical staff
Supporting business development, proposals, and strategic growth
Oversee teams developing and applying models and design tools to support infrastructure projects. Typical models and tools we use include ICPR (Stormwise), EPA-SWMM, HEC-RAS, Tuflow, AutoCAD Civil3D, and ArcGIS
Supporting watershed management planning and conceptualizing flood reduction and water quality improvement capital improvement projects
Leading environmental resource permitting
Overseeing preparation of technical reports, plans, specifications, and construction documents
Supporting field investigations and construction-phase services
Helping clients address climate resilience and long-term infrastructure challenges
What we are looking for
We are seeking a senior professional who is technically strong, practical, and motivated to help shape a growing practice.
Required qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a closely related discipline with a water resources emphasis
8+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
PE professional license. Additional credentials are a bonus such as GISP, WEDG, ENV SP, CFM, PMP, CPESC, or CPSWQ
Valid U.S. driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record for business travel
Preferred qualifications
Advanced degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, , or a related field
Experience with: civil/site design, permitting, construction administration, stormwater and civil infrastructure design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling,
Proficiency with relevant technical tools such as AutoCAD Civil3D, ICPR, EPA-SWMM, HEC-RAS, and ArcGIS
Experience managing projects, coordinating teams, and serving clients directly
Interest in mentoring staff and helping grow technical and business capabilities within the firm
What success looks like
The ideal candidate will possess technical depth and leadership skills. You do not need to fit a narrow mold. We are especially interested in professionals who want to:

Expand their influence beyond pure technical delivery

Contribute to the direction of a small, respected, and expanding practice
