Mechanical Engineer (PE) with strong experience in HVAC system design and Revit MEP modeling to support the design and coordination of mechanical systems for residential and light commercial developments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing mechanical engineering design, developing BIM models in Revit, preparing construction documents, and coordinating with architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
This role is ideal for a mid-career engineer looking to expand their technical and project leadership experience within a growing MEP engineering practice.
Key Responsibilities Mechanical System Design
Design HVAC and plumbing systems for residential and light commercial buildings.
Perform heating and cooling load calculations and engineering analysis.
Select mechanical equipment including heat pumps, air handlers, rooftop units, boilers, and pumps.
Design air distribution systems including duct sizing, airflow calculations, and static pressure analysis.
Design plumbing systems including domestic water distribution, sanitary drainage, and vent systems.
Revit MEP / BIM Modeling
Develop and maintain Revit MEP models for HVAC and plumbing systems.
Create coordinated BIM models for mechanical system layouts including ductwork, piping, and equipment.
Produce construction documents and detailed mechanical drawings directly from Revit models.
Assist in maintaining company BIM standards and Revit families.
BIM Coordination
Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, and electrical disciplines.
Identify and resolve coordination issues within BIM models.
Participate in interdisciplinary BIM coordination meetings.
Engineering Analysis
Perform engineering calculations using industry tools including:
Carrier HAP
Wrightsoft HVAC design software
Apply engineering standards including:
ASHRAE standards
ACCA Manual J
ACCA Manual S
ACCA Manual D
Project Coordination
Coordinate mechanical system designs with architects, structural engineers, and contractors.
Review shop drawings and contractor submittals.
Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
Participate in project meetings and provide technical support during construction.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
5–8 years of mechanical engineering design experience in building systems (Residential and Commercial).
Strong proficiency with Autodesk Revit MEP for mechanical system modeling.
Experience designing HVAC and plumbing systems for buildings.
Ability and willingness to obtain PE licenses in additional states through comity as project needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
PE license in Texas or ability to obtain Texas licensure quickly.
Experience with residential developments or multi-family projects.
Familiarity with BIM coordination tools such as Navisworks.
Experience working in a consulting engineering environment.
