Job Description
Space is a critical domain, connecting our technologies, our security and our humanity. While others view space as a destination, we see it as a realm of possibilities, where we can do more — we can innovate, invest, inspire and integrate our capabilities to transform the future.
At Lockheed Martin Space, we aim to harness the full potential of space to cultivate innovation, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. We’re creating future-ready solutions, focusing on resiliency and urgency through our 21st Century Security® vision. We’re erasing boundaries and forming partnerships across industries and around the world. We’re advancing spacecraft and the workforce to fuel the next generation. And we’re reimagining how space can connect us, ensuring security and prosperity.
Join us in shaping a new era in space.
Defending against modern day missile threats
requires constant collaboration and innovation.
That’s why we’re able to integrate systems
from end to end so you can detect, control,
and engage the full spectrum of missile threats
across every domain. It’s why we’re investing
in disruptive technology like directed energy,
space-based capabilities, and solid state-radar.
To create layers of defense that help keep us
all safe.
Shooting a missile down with a missile was
once a concept only dreamed up in science
fiction novels. We’ve made it scientific fact! So,
what does it take to spot an enemy missile
launch, identify its intended target, calculate its
exact trajectory, launch an interceptor, and
guide it to destroy the threat in mid-air? All in
a matter of seconds? It’s not easy – but at
Lockheed Martin, we help customers solve the
world’s most complex challenges. Our culture
supports employees to dream big, perform
with excellence and create incredible products.
We provide the resources, inspiration and focus
and if you have the passion and courage, we
want to build a better tomorrow with you.
As a Mechanical Engineer you will be key in
supporting preliminary and detailed design and
analysis of missile structures and thermal
protection systems. You may also be
supporting: - Design of missile mechanical
subsystem(s) such as deployment mechanisms,
separation mechanisms, actuators, sensor
cover mechanisms, and other mechanisms
Interface with the customer to obtain end
user input and build a partnership.
Design hardware, mechanical/structural
components, and subsystems aligned with
customer requirements and LM Space standard
methodologies (CIPS) in activities related to
developing, revising, and releasing engineering
drawings
Use Creo Parametric develop and release
engineering designs using EPDM
Coordinate engineering design packages with
a multidisciplinary team that includes: PMP,
Flight Sciences, Systems Engineering,
Checking, Manufacturing, Product Assurance,
and Configuration and Data Management
Implement strict CAD modeling standards;
utilize "model-check" tools and resolve design
issues to meet modeling standards
Work with, refine, and integrate component
and subsystem designs into a system level
design
Desired Skills
Creo and CAD data management (EPDM) experience
Flight hardware experience
Knowledge of composite structure design and fabrication
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and documentation
Experience with test methods, planning and execution
Experience working with other LM operating units
Hands-on hardware experience
Experience working with suppliers
Active Secret clearance
Master of Science in an Engineering Discipline related to the basic qualifications
Experience as a Certified Principal Engineer (CPE) delegate or equivalent
Experience operating as a part of integrated product teams
Experience with motors, bearings, gears, resolvers, and potentiometers
Experience with rapid prototyping and concept development to be first to market
Experience with MDA customers and consultants
Functions well in a creative, high-tempo, collaborative, cross-functional, dynamic, and multi-disciplinary environment
Familiarity with LM Space processes, procedures, and tools (including EPDM/Windchill)
Experience in the areas of aluminum forging, welding, machining, finishing, etc.
Experience developing structures and mechanisms for missiles
Excellent communication skills
Experience with model-based definition (Data Set Rating 6)
Highly proficient with Creo Parametric
Active DoD Secret clearance
Experience supporting production of missile
or spacecraft hardware
