Job Description: Mechanical Engineering Architect – Mechanical Design
Location: Bangalore
Experience: 8-15 years
About The Role
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineering Architect to lead the mechanical design, structural analysis, packaging, enclosure design, motor mechanical design, and gearbox integration activities for our X-in-1 Electric Drivetrain Systems.
The candidate will be responsible for defining the complete mechanical architecture of integrated EV powertrain systems, including motor, gearbox, inverter, OBC, DC-DC converter, PDU, cooling systems, busbar routing, connectors, mounting interfaces, and enclosure packaging.
This role requires strong expertise in mechanical product design, structural and thermal-mechanical considerations, manufacturability, vehicle integration, supplier interaction, and cross-functional coordination with electrical, electronics, thermal, software, testing, manufacturing, and OEM teams.
Roles And Responsibilities
Define the complete mechanical architecture for X-in-1 EV drivetrain systems. Develop optimal packaging concepts for motor, gearbox, inverter, OBC, DC-DC, PDU, cooling system, connectors, and harness interfaces.
Finalize mechanical envelope, mounting strategy, component placement, and subsystem interfaces.
Work on vehicle-level integration, mounting points, clearances, serviceability, and installation requirements.
Perform and guide structural analysis of housings, brackets, covers, enclosures, mounting structures, and load-bearing parts.
Evaluate mechanical strength under vehicle loads, road loads, torque reactions, thermal expansion, and assembly stresses.
Support correlation of CAE results with physical test results.
Work on motor housing, cooling jacket, shaft interface, bearing arrangement, rotor-stator packaging, resolver/sensor mounting, and terminal connections.
Evaluate motor mechanical constraints such as rotor dynamics, bearing loads, sealing, cooling, manufacturability, and assembly sequence.
Coordinate with motor suppliers for drawings, interfaces, tolerances, cooling requirements, and validation requirements.
Coordinate with gearbox suppliers for gear ratio, torque capacity, NVH, lubrication, durability, packaging, and interface requirements.
Work on geartrain layout, housing integration, bearing supports, shafts, differential interface, lubrication, sealing, and mounting.
Review gearbox design from the perspective of strength, manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, and vehicle integration.
Support design reviews for motor-gearbox mechanical coupling and alignment.
Design and architect enclosures for power electronics, motor controller, OBC, DC-DC, PDU, and integrated drivetrain systems.
Define sealing strategy, gasket design, fastener strategy, creepage/clearance-related mechanical barriers, and service covers.
Work closely with thermal and CFD teams to integrate cold plates, cooling jackets, coolant passages, and thermal interfaces.
Support prototype drawings, supplier drawings, manufacturing drawings, and assembly documentation.
Support RFIs, RFQs, technical evaluations, supplier selection, and supplier development activities.
Support mechanical validation planning for vibration, shock, thermal cycling, IP testing, salt spray, durability, mounting strength, and environmental tests.
Eligibility
8 to 15 years of experience in mechanical design, structural analysis, packaging, or product development.
B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline.
Specialization in machine design, structural analysis, automotive systems, or product design will be an added advantage.
Desired Skills
Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, structural analysis, packaging, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and manufacturing processes.
Hands-on experience in 3D CAD tools such as CATIA, Creo, SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent.
Experience with CAE tools such as ANSYS Mechanical, HyperWorks, Abaqus, Nastran, or equivalent.
Experience with integrated EV systems, e-axle, or electric drive units.
Ability to convert high-level requirements into practical mechanical architecture.
Good communication and coordination skills with internal teams, OEMs, and suppliers.
