Mechanical Engineer/Product Designer Job Description
Job Summary
Skyfish is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer/Product Designer to join our growing engineering team. You’ll work alongside a group of talented innovators developing best-in-class autonomous drones used to measure, map, and model critical infrastructure. As part of a fast-moving technology start-up, you’ll help shape the future of precision data collection and aerial measurement. In this role, you will collaborate across all departments to design, engineer, assemble, and test key components of the Skyfish drone platform.
Responsibilities:
Create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings to validate concepts, communicate design intent, and support production using SolidWorks and PDM.
Drive new product ideas and product-support initiatives from concept through production, managing engineering activities, priorities, and cross-team coordination.
Develop and review technical documentation including drawings, specifications, BOMs, and test plans.
Apply engineering principles, proprietary tools, and internal design criteria to develop new product concepts or enhance existing designs.
Assemble, test, and iterate prototypes throughout the design cycle.
Define, execute, and document product validation testing to verify new concepts and ensure design robustness.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams – including electrical engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain – to ensure design feasibility, manufacturability, and seamless system integration.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
5+ years of mechanical or product design experience.
Drone-related industry experience preferred.
Proficiency using CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, injection molding, etc.).
Experience with product testing, validation, and reliability engineering.
Hands-on prototyping and testing experience preferred.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a track record of delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
