What To Expect
Tesla Infrastructure Engineering is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and procurement of process mechanical equipment in industrial facilities. This position involves coordinating with multiple teams to ensure accurate and timely requisitioning of mechanical components, such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and tanks. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and a deep understanding of the process chemical industry's regulatory and operational requirements.

What You'll Do

Review engineering drawings, PFDs, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and specifications to identify mechanical material requirements for oil & gas facilities, including onshore and offshore installations
Review process data sheets to understand requirements and create mechanical data sheets for associated equipment
Develop and issue purchase requisitions, RFQs (Requests for Quotation), and technical bid evaluations for mechanical vendors and suppliers, focusing on quality, cost, and delivery
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process, piping, electrical, controls, and civil engineers as well as project management and construction managers, to resolve technical discrepancies and optimize equipment selections
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, such as API (American Petroleum Institute), ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), ISO, and OSHA
Ensure equipment design and selection meet safety and quality standards and implement quality control procedures
Monitor project progress, track requisition statuses, and mitigate risks related to material shortages, delays, or non-conformances


What You'll Bring

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
2 - 5 years of experience with mechanical engineering role for oil & gas, chemical, or industrial capital projects
Proficiency in mechanical design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Ansys, or other programs for 3D modeling and review of mechanical equipment
Familiarity with procurement best practices from project inception through construction completion
Familiarity with International codes and standards like ASME, API, ISO, OSHA
Good interface knowledge with other disciplines (e.g., process, piping, electrical, instrumentation, civil, structural) and knowledge of their deliverables
Willingness to travel to project sites (up to 20%) and adhere to safety protocols in industrial settings
