Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer will support the development of deployable solar energy products from concept through production release.

This role will be responsible for detailed design execution, design refinement, engineering analysis, documentation, prototype support, and engineering change implementation. The engineer will work closely with internal engineering leadership, outsourced design resources, manufacturing partners, and suppliers to ensure designs are manufacturable, properly documented, and configuration controlled.

The ideal candidate understands that engineering is more than creating CAD models—it includes configuration management, supplier collaboration, design iteration, manufacturing support, and continuous product improvement.

Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Product Development
Create and modify mechanical designs using SolidWorks
Develop parts, assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, and electromechanical assemblies
Perform design iterations based on testing, manufacturing feedback, supplier input, and field performance
Generate engineering drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation
Participate in design reviews and technical problem-solving activities
Support prototype development and engineering testing
Design Integration & Supplier Collaboration
Review and integrate CAD models received from outsourced engineering firms and suppliers
Validate outsourced designs for manufacturability, quality, and compliance with company standards
Coordinate technical changes with engineering partners and manufacturers
Collaborate with suppliers to resolve design, tolerance, manufacturing, and assembly issues
Support first article inspections and manufacturing readiness reviews
Configuration Management & Documentation
Maintain accurate engineering documentation within Arena PLM and SolidWorks PDM
Create and manage Bills of Material (BOMs)
Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and revision control processes
Ensure design files, drawings, and product structures remain properly synchronized
Maintain engineering documentation in accordance with company configuration management standards

Manufacturing & Product Realization
Support prototype and production builds
Participate in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews
Support supplier qualification and manufacturing process development
Assist with root cause investigations and corrective actions
Support transition from prototype to production
Engineering Analysis
Perform engineering calculations and tolerance stack analyses
Evaluate design concepts for strength, weight, manufacturability, and cost
Support design verification activities
Develop test plans and assist with validation testing

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
3–5 years of mechanical product development experience
Proficiency with SolidWorks
Experience creating production drawings and engineering documentation
Experience with BOM-driven product development
Familiarity with revision control and engineering change processes
Understanding of manufacturing methods including:
Sheet metal
Weldments
Machined components
Injection molded components
Mechanical assemblies
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work effectively with suppliers and external engineering resources
Comfortable working in a fast-paced small-company environment

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Arena PLM
Experience with SolidWorks PDM
Experience with government-funded R&D programs
Experience with deployable structures or renewable energy products
Familiarity with electromechanical systems
