Mechanical Engineer – Richardson, TX

Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of custom packaging solutions for a diverse commercial customer base. This role will work closely with sales, production, and senior engineering staff to create practical, cost-effective designs using materials such as corrugated, wood, foam, and hybrid assemblies.
This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career engineer who wants hands-on exposure to product design, manufacturing processes, and real-world problem solving in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the design and development of custom packaging solutions based on customer requirements, product specifications, and shipping conditions.
Create 2D and 3D CAD models, drawings, and specifications for production.
Support prototype development, testing, and validation of packaging designs.
Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer needs and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
Work with production and operations teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet quality standards.
Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Conduct basic engineering calculations (load, compression, vibration, etc.) to support packaging performance.
Assist in troubleshooting design or production issues and recommend improvements.
Maintain accurate documentation, drawings, and revision control.
Stay current on materials, manufacturing techniques, and packaging innovations.
Support other engineering and technical projects as needed.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
0–3 years of engineering experience (internships or co-ops highly valued).
Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Effective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to packaging design, materials engineering, or manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with corrugated, foam, wood, or similar materials.
Basic understanding of testing standards (e.g., compression, drop, vibration).
Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment.
Knowledge of ERP or engineering document control systems.
