Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to design and deliver custom automation and robotic systems for a wide range of industrial applications. This role requires strong proficiency in SolidWorks and hands-on project engineering experience, including ownership of projects from concept through installation and commissioning. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment and is comfortable balancing design work with real-world problem solving on the shop floor and at customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design of custom automation equipment, robotic cells, and tooling using SolidWorks
Own full project lifecycle: concept development, design, detailing, procurement support, build oversight, and system commissioning
Translate customer requirements into practical, cost-effective mechanical solutions
Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings (GD&T preferred)
Perform component selection (actuators, bearings, gearboxes, structural elements, etc.) and basic calculations (loads, stresses, tolerances)
Collaborate with controls engineers, electrical engineers, machinists, and assembly technicians to ensure system functionality and manufacturability
Support fabrication and assembly teams during build, troubleshoot issues, and implement design improvements
Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and timeline planning
Interface directly with customers to review designs, provide updates, and support installation/commissioning activities
Maintain accurate documentation including BOMs, revision control, and engineering notes
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
3+ years of experience in mechanical design for automation, robotics, or custom machinery
Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (part modeling, large assemblies, drawings)
Demonstrated project engineering experience with ownership of timelines, budgets, and deliverables
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, and machine design principles
Experience designing for fabrication methods such as machining, welding, and assembly
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with industrial robotics integration (e.g., end-of-arm tooling, robotic cells)
Familiarity with pneumatic systems, motion control components, and automation hardware
Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., machine guarding, risk assessments)
Experience working directly with customers in a technical capacity
Hands-on shop or build experience
