Summary
Plans, develops, and coordinates large engineering projects or numerous small projects with many complex features.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for design and or review complete Rail subsystem based on customer specifications, and/or requirements
Creates installation and subsystem models, drawings and bills of materials as well as new piece part models, drawings and BOMs used by production or purchasing
Conducts FMEAs
Coordinates with parent facility researchers and/or other engineering personnel to define broad project or R&D objectives and ascertain the nature of complex research problems.
Develops and creates documentation/papers on projects for publication and/or distribution to customers as required by contract
Does research to clarify or resolve problems and develops design.
Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics
Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product.
Confers with other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.
Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to developments of systems or other uses
Investigates ways to improve quality or reduce cost of existing products.
Assists with supplier changes to ensure new supplier’s product is equal to or better than existing product
Handles engineering administration tasks such as creating, modifying, or assisting with work instructions, forms, manuals, and filing systems
Qualification Requirements
Knowledge of engineering principles and procedures and practices
Knowledge of equipment and systems appropriate to related products. Metal manufacture (including but not limited to aluminum and steel profiles and sheets, rubber, pneumatics, electronics
Skill in engineering design applications
Willingness to travel internationally and domestically up to but not limited to 10% of the year
Physical/Medical Requirements
Must pass a preemployment drug screening
Must be able to lift 50 to 100 pounds
Use of safety equipment including but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, safety boots or shoes. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted
Education Requirement
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college
2 years of engineering or related experience
Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerance
Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD required (Catia V5, Solidworks, and AutoCad preferred)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) required
There is no relocation assistance available for this position
