Angstrom Designs is a small instrumentation company located in downtown Santa Barbara. We develop and sell electronic test equipment and services to support photovoltaic power systems for satellites and spacecraft. Our main offerings are LED-based solar simulators, solar cell testing on the International Space Station, high-altitude solar cell calibration balloon flights, laboratory and space flight measurement systems, and custom contract work. Role Description
Angstrom Designs is looking for a full-time, on-site mechanical engineer with other system-level engineering skills. Mechanical design tasks will include new component and fixture designs for space flight and ground test hardware, updates to existing designs and fixtures, improvements to useability and manufacturability, building manufacturing systems and working with machine shops and vendors. Non-mechanical work may include application science, running and testing our tools, Python programming, program management, customer interactions and/or attending industry conferences. Angstrom Designs is a small company and as such you will be directly contributing to the success of our products and services. We’re looking for an individual who is comfortable working close to hardware and test equipment and has interest and capability to improve that hardware.
A Strong Candidate Will
Have at least 5 years of experience
Be able to perform mechanical design on ground test hardware and fixtures
Be able to do mechanical CAD design, drafting, and management of machine shops
Perform mechanical manufacturing, purchasing, assembly, debug, and support
Collaborate with our engineering team to develop and improve Angstrom Designs instrumentation products and services
Learn about and implement state-of-the-art measurement techniques for solar cell testing
Take ownership of our mechanical and manufacturing systems
An Ideal Candidate Has
Experience with OnShape CAD
Spacecraft component and/or product design experience
Desire and experience to support application science, perform tests with our products, program in Python, do program management, and/ or interface with customers
