Join our fast-paced and passionate team as a Mechanical Engineer II - Tooling. As we scale, you will be instrumental in building our manufacturing foundation from the ground up. This is a dynamic, hands-on role for a self-directed engineer who thrives in an evolving environment and enjoys solving complex technical problems through practical execution.
In this role, you will design, develop, and implement tooling, fixtures, and mechanical solutions that enable precision manufacturing and assembly processes. You will work closely with mechanical, optical, electrical, manufacturing, and process development teams to create scalable solutions supporting product development and production growth.
You will contribute to transforming complex product concepts into robust, manufacturable processes and systems while helping establish engineering standards, workflows, and best practices.
Impact
You will help:
Develop tooling and fixture solutions that improve repeatability and manufacturability
Enable scalable manufacturing processes from prototype through production
Improve quality, yield, and cycle time through innovative mechanical solutions
Support transition of products and processes from development into manufacturing
Build foundational engineering infrastructure that supports company growth
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement precision tooling, fixtures, mechanisms, and support equipment for manufacturing and assembly operations
Participate in development activities from concept through production release
Work independently and collaboratively while maintaining clear and proactive communication with team members and leadership
Execute engineering tasks involving planning, design, data collection, analysis, documentation, and implementation
Support development and optimization of manufacturing processes through tooling innovation and continuous improvement initiatives
Generate detailed mechanical designs and production documentation using CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred)
Perform tolerance analysis and apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles
Support Design of Experiments (DOE) activities to optimize process capability and manufacturing robustness
Develop fixture and mechanism solutions for precision alignment, assembly, handling, inspection, and testing operations
Coordinate fabrication activities with internal teams and external vendors
Support procurement, integration, testing, qualification, and release of tooling systems
Troubleshoot tooling and process-related issues and participate in root cause investigations
Assist with process validation and equipment qualification activities
Create engineering documentation including drawings, procedures, test plans, and reports
Participate in establishing engineering standards and best practices
Maintain strong attention to execution quality, schedule adherence, and technical accuracy
Use mentorship, curiosity, initiative, and collaboration to continuously expand technical knowledge
Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
This position requires access to export-controlled information. Employment is contingent upon the applicant being a U.S. person as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)
Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related engineering field
2+ years of relevant industry experience, ideally within a startup or technology environment
Experience designing and implementing mechanical systems, tooling, fixtures, or manufacturing equipment
Required Skills and Technical Competencies
