Mechanical Designer / Mechanical Engineer (We have TWO separate opportunities)
Location: Columbia, MO (Outside of)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Designer or Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of custom mechanical systems. This role will focus on 3D modeling, drawing creation, and mechanical system design, supporting projects from concept through fabrication and commissioning.
This position is ideal for candidates ranging from experienced designers (CAD-focused) to early-to-mid career engineers (system design-focused) who are looking to grow within a specialized industry.
Key Responsibilities
Translate P&IDs into 3D models and detailed drawings
Create customer layout drawings and fabrication drawings from 3D models
Design and assist with mechanical systems (piping, hydronic, gas delivery, HVAC)
Size and specify mechanical equipment and components (more engineering-focused)
Revise and maintain existing models and drawings
Review assembly and fabrication drawings for accuracy and manufacturability
Support manufacturing and service teams during production and commissioning
Review physical equipment during construction/assembly
Ensure compliance with engineering standards and client requirements
Communicate with internal teams, contractors, and customers
Qualifications (Flexible Based on Level)
For Mechanical Designer (CAD-Focused):
Associate’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience
1–5+ years of experience in 3D CAD modeling and drafting
Strong ability to create fabrication and layout drawings
For Mechanical Engineer (Design-Focused):
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET preferred) or equivalent experience
2–6+ years of experience in mechanical system design and equipment sizing
Experience with piping systems, HVAC, or similar mechanical applications
Technical Skills
Experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and fabrication drawings
Understanding of mechanical systems and components
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Core Competencies
Strong attention to detail in design and documentation
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Effective problem-solving and analytical thinking
Strong communication skills across technical teams
Ability to balance design work with hands-on production support
Designer $65-75K; Engineer $75-100K
