What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer in the Autopilot and Electronics Product Design team to work on sensing devices (weather/occupant/vehicle awareness). Vehicle autonomy combined with new regulation standards requires innovative mechanical solutions for sensors. Tesla is a unique place for a mechanical engineer to own designs from first principles to mass production. Looking for various experience levels - Senior, Staff etc.
What You'll Do
Work closely with sensing, interior, exterior teams to enable temperature, rain, cabin and tire pressure sensors
Optimize sensors in the vehicle while considering product variation, environmental factors, thermal, assembly and more
Participate in prototype builds, component fabrication, testing and validation efforts
Own the design of all mechanical components including PCBA outline, heatsink design, shield-can design, connector selection, sensors selection, manufacturability at scale
Conduct mechanical design analysis including structural, tolerance, FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and design for assembly
Generate detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and documentation of mechanical designs using 3DX. Collaborate with other cross-functional teams to take designs from prototype through production and deployment
Support development of engineering and reliability test plans, test data analysis, and troubleshooting of design issues. Communicate with suppliers regarding DFM (Design for Manufacturing) feedback and support tooling and assembly bring up
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
