Summary
UST is looking for a Mechanical Engineer with strong product design expertise, manufacturing knowledge, and hands‑on experience in machine tools and precision automation.
Job Description
Required Skills:
Machine tool design, precision mechanism, automation systems and tooling.
Strong engineering fundamentals: GD&T (ASME), tolerance stack‑ups, FMECA, vacuum mechanics.
Proficiency in CAD tools: UG NX & Teamcenter, CREO/Windchill, AutoCAD.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes: Sheetmetal, machining, fabrication and surface finish.
Understanding of FEA principles (linear static, thermal).
Strong knowledge of materials used in precision machinery and semiconductor domains (metals, ceramics, composites).
Basics of PLC, sensors, IO integration (non‑programming) Pneumatics, hydraulics, motion systems
Key Responsibilities
Identify and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues; perform and document engineering tests with limited to no supervision.
Work with global teams to design subsystems and systems for semiconductor process (CVD/PVD/Vacuum/ATM) and the automation following SEMI standards.
Requires deep understanding of precision mechanisms, linear/rotary motion, Linear motors & motion feedback, stiffness, thermal stability, and high accuracy assemblies, Interlock systems
Design/modify mechanical concepts, layouts, schematics, and detailed drawings for challenging subsystems.
Perform engineering analysis of moderate/ difficult scope with limited supervision
Perform hand calculations and simplified FEA (thermal, structural, modal).
Lead engineering projects, supplier qualification, and development of high‑precision components.
Develop and interpret P&ID diagrams, schematics, and system-level design documents.
May be responsible for the design, development and implementation of custom mechanical tooling, fixturing, and associated processes to enable the handling, assembly and/or disassembly of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies throughout the product life cycle.
Establish standards across design, assembly, and manufacturing processes.
Prepare and review mechanical product specifications and engineering documentation.
Implement innovative solutions to complex product and mechanical design issues.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams throughout all phases of project execution
Precision Machine Tools & Motion Engineering (Emphasis Area)
Detailed understanding of precision machine tool functional elements, including:
Linear stages (X, Y, Z)
Rotary / theta stages
Guideways (cross‑roller, linear motion guides, air bearings)
High‑precision drive systems (ball screws, linear motors, piezo actuators, servos/steppers)
Knowledge of:
Motion system dynamics (accuracy, repeatability, backlash, stiffness, thermal drift)
Precision alignment and metrology methods
Linear motors, Gimbal 3-point level leveling, Knowledge of encoders.
Integrated assembly of multi‑axis XYZ + θ stages
Ability to design and troubleshoot precision motion assemblies used in semiconductor equipment: wafer handling, substrate positioning, process modules, inspection modules, etc.
Experience with motion controllers, encoders, feedback loops, and closed-loop system behavior.
Interpersonal Skills
Communicates complex topics clearly and effectively.
Works collaboratively to build consensus across global stakeholders.
Self-driven, analytical mindset with a positive attitude. Team leadership & mentoring
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering.
M. Tech preferred (optional)
8 –10 years of experience in product development, preferably in Machine tools and precision automations, robotic integration or semiconductor equipment.
Experience with vacuum systems and high‑temperature reactor environments is a strong advantage.
