What To Expect
The Mechanical Engineer, Measurement Engineering role is both a practical and analytical position. A successful candidate will be responsible for developing dimensional standards and practices while driving measurement plan creation and implementation, as well as leading E-Cube fixture design and commissioning for various programs. This includes, but isn’t limited to, Gauge and Fixture design, setup, and qualifications; Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility and Correlation/Linearity Studies; Measurement Plan creation; Dimensional Stack Up Analysis; and Design Change Recommendations/proposals. These functions will need review of manufacturing processes, current build quality, and part/assembly design to drive improvements across all Tesla Programs.

Global Dimensional Systems and Documents will be reviewed and developed to improve design processes and measurement plan implementation.

The Measurement Engineer will work closely with Manufacturing, Design, Supplier, and Quality Engineering Teams to provide measurement plans and fixtures needed to define, measure, analyze, improve and control product and process quality from their respective shops.

The successful candidate must have mechanical aptitude, the ability to meet tight deadlines, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail oriented and be able to both take direction and work independently. These activities play a vital role in the delivery of high-quality products.

We are seeking a passionate candidate to join the Measurement Engineering team in our Fremont, California office.

What You'll Do

Collaborate with dimensional engineering and stakeholders to generate measurement points and plans throughout the entire vehicle assembly process
Effectively oversee and update measurement plans, promptly adapting to engineering changes and requests from Tesla cross functional and factory teams
Guarantee precise and efficient communication of measurement point data to both internal and external partners
Oversee the development of cubing fixtures. Collaborate on design with engineering partners and vendors, manage engineering changes and their impact on fixtures, and conduct thorough compatibility checks
Guarantee the timely delivery of fixtures to the factory, conduct training for the metrology and quality teams, and oversee the initial builds to identify and address any potential issues
Review part and assembly data using data collection software (CM4D, Polyworks, Dataloop)
Support with new product launches, continuous improvement, and troubleshooting related to measurement engineering responsibilities
Support in risk assessment & mitigation activities related to measurement engineering
Create and Train on New Documents, Measurement Engineering Processes, and Detection Methods
Create Dashboards to Track Measurement Engineering KPIs


What You'll Bring

1+ years of experience in a Manufacturing, Design, Quality, or Process focused role
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
1+ years' experience with 3D CAD programs, Catia V5/3DExperience preferred
Strong Skillset with GD&T and ASME Y14.5-2018
Measurement planning and implementation preferred
Skilled in MS excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Experience creating 2D drawings for assemblies and parts
Experience working with metrology equipment and measurement fixtures preferred
Experience with measurement programs using metrology software and equipment preferred
Experience using JIRA, CM4D, Polyworks, Dataloop, PC-DMIS or Minitab a plus

Expected Compensation

$91,600 - $164,400/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
