Position: Mechanical Design Engineer
Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Location: Southwest Chicago - onsite daily
I am looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a team, supporting equipment design, fabrication, and plant-level engineering projects. This is a hands-on, onsite role working closely with fabrication, controls, electrical engineering, and production teams to design and modify mechanical systems supporting manufacturing operations
Key Responsibilities
Develop 3D models and fabrication drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
Design mechanical assemblies, layouts, and detailed drawings using ANSI standards
Support projects by gathering technical requirements including:
Dimensions
Equipment capabilities
Pricing inputs
Electrical and pneumatic needs
Collaborate with fabrication shop, controls engineers, electrical engineers, and production supervision
Revise and update drawings based on engineering notes, redlines, and field conditions
Support multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
QUALIFICATIONS
BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Packaging Engineering or Associate’s degree in Drafting, Design, or Engineering
4+ years in Mechanical Design or similar engineering role
Hands on professional experience with Autodesk Inventor (2023+ or equivalent), Autodesk AutoCAD (2023+ or equivalent) and Autodesk Vault
Experience with Microsoft Office 365
Exposure to ERP / MRP system
Packaging or industrial machinery (wrapping, bagging, conveyors, robotic equipment)
Manufacturing or plant equipment (material handling, pumps, extruders, heat exchangers)
Experience working with machine shops (mills, lathes, welders, presses)
Ability to take field measurements using standard tools
Familiarity with food manufacturing environments, GMPs, and OSHA standards
