We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established manufacturing organization in Portland, TN. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical engineer who enjoys doing more than sitting behind a computer designing parts.
You'll have the opportunity to take ideas from concept through design, prototyping, testing, validation and ultimately into production. The ideal candidate is creative, self-motivated and comfortable working directly with machinists, manufacturing teams and laboratory equipment to quickly develop and improve physical products.
The environment encourages experimentation, rapid iteration and learning from results. If you enjoy designing something in CAD and then getting out from behind your desk to actually build and test it, this could be a great fit.
What You'll Do
• Design and develop new mechanical products and product families
• Create 3D models, assemblies and technical drawings using CAD software
• Develop concepts and prototypes utilizing 3D printing, machine shops and manufacturing resources
• Perform hands-on laboratory testing, design verification and product validation
• Work directly with machinists and production teams to quickly prototype and refine designs
• Evaluate products, materials and manufacturing processes for performance, functionality and manufacturability
• Support products throughout the development cycle from initial concept through market introduction
• Lead and contribute to new product development projects
• Support engineering changes, drawing updates and technical documentation
• Apply engineering principles and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot design and product challenges

What We're Looking For
• Approximately 3–5+ years of mechanical engineering, product engineering, R&D or mechanical design experience
• Strong 3D CAD and mechanical design experience
• SolidWorks experience preferred; experience with Creo, CATIA, NX, Inventor or similar platforms may also be considered
• Hands-on experience with prototyping, product testing, validation or design verification
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials and technical drawings
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects without requiring significant day-to-day direction
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving development environment where designs are built, tested, refined and tested again

Education
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred
• Candidates with significant relevant mechanical design/R&D experience may also be considered
