Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. This role will primarily focus on developing new and improving existing product design. In this role, you will be developing cutting-edge mechanical systems and components, transforming conceptual ideas into detailed, manufacturable designs to aide in the flow of bulk storage materials. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to complex projects at multiple levels and stages. We are a small, growing company that takes on big challenges. We are looking for someone who is hardworking and creative with a strong drive to solve problems who also isn't afraid to get their hands dirty from time to time. We are a low volume - high variability manufacturing company with excellent machining and fabrication capabilities.
Primary Responsibilities
Utilizing Solidworks to create 3D models and manufacturing drawings, design and create new and innovative products to aide in the flow of bulk storage materials in explosive and hazardous environments
Spec electrical and mechanical components for new and existing assemblies
Conduct FEA (Finite Element Analysis) simulations to validate structural integrity and optimize designs for performance and durability
Perform root cause analysis on mechanical failures or design issues, implementing effective corrective actions
Collaborate with manufacturing teams to facilitate prototype development and streamline production processes, including CNC machining and 3D printing
Secondary Responsibilities
Support project scheduling by estimating timelines for design phases and coordinating deliverables across teams
Work with Sales and Admin to understand current market needs
Ensure new and current products comply with applicable regulatory bodies
Develop customer facing technical documentation
Assist purchasing in technical aspects of supply chain management
Perform on-site service visits as needed for commissioning, maintenance, repair, and calibration of equipment
Document service activities, including findings, solutions, and recommendations for future enhancements
Develop and implement quality control processes to ensure product conformance to specifications
Conduct inspections and audits internally and with suppliers to identify areas for cost savings or quality improvements and implement corrective actions
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement
Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of experience in a mechanical design engineering related role.
Strong technical skills, including proficiency with CAD software (Solidworks, SW PDM, SW Composer) and manufacturing tools.
Excellent communication, problem solving and teamwork skills
Experience with project/product management
Hands on mechanical experience
Preferred:
Electrical system design experience
Mechatronics/automation experience
Systems engineering experience
Previous team leadership roles
Job Requirements:
10% Travel (Up to 5 days a quarter)
Occasionally lift up to 100lbs
Valid Driver’s License
Expected 40hrs/week, Salaried
