Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Comp: $60,000-$75,000
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Our client is seeking immediate assistance in identifying a candidate for a Mechanical Design Engineer direct hire position in the Indianapolis, IN area.
Responsibilities:
Design and optimize mechanical components for powertrain and industrial equipment systems
Create and detail fabricated weldments and machined components (frames, shafts, brackets, housings, etc.)
Perform engineering analysis including FEA (structural, fatigue, thermal, vibration, acoustics)
Design and specify electro-mechanical and electro-hydraulic systems
Develop manufacturing drawings in accordance with engineering standards
Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to define requirements and solutions
Interface with vendors for component selection, manufacturing, and assembly processes
Evaluate customer specifications, proposals, and feasibility of designs
Ensure designs meet performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements
Support product builds on the shop floor (approx. 10% of time)
Design both standard and custom large-scale industrial equipment using Autodesk Inventor
Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (required, no exceptions)
2+ years of relevant mechanical design experience
2D and 3D CAD design and modeling experience
Proficiency in 3D CAD (Inventor preferred; SolidWorks or Pro/E acceptable)
Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical systems
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Preferred Skills:
Exposure to robotics or industrial automation (Fanuc a plus)
Experience with CNC/plasma cutting environments
Ladder logic programming exposure (not required, but beneficial)
Machine design experience (multi-component systems and assemblies)
Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems
Experience designing continuous-duty, multi-axis industrial equipment
