Mechanical Systems Design Engineer
Location: Onsite – Leander, TX, United States
Compensation: Approximately $150,000, depending on experience, expertise, and demonstrated performance

Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Systems Design Engineer to design, build, test, and deliver mechanical systems that perform reliably in real-world conditions. This role involves full lifecycle ownership of hardware, from early prototypes through production-ready systems. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure mechanical components meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Design mechanical components and assemblies, including performing calculations, tolerance analysis, and applying GD&T principles
Create detailed technical drawings and documentation for manufacturing and assembly
Ensure mechanical designs integrate effectively with broader system architecture and load conditions
Design and integrate mechanisms such as linkages, gears, motors, actuators, and structural assemblies
Develop prototypes and iterate rapidly using internal fabrication tools or external vendors
Manage the process from CAD design to fabrication, installation, testing, and refinement
Conduct real-world testing, identify failure modes, analyze results, and implement design improvements
Perform basic engineering analysis including stress analysis, FEA, or other simulation tools when needed
Develop designs that are scalable and manufacturable in production environments
Collaborate with manufacturing teams and external vendors to ensure precision, quality, and repeatability
Source materials and components and resolve procurement challenges to maintain development timelines
Support system builds, troubleshooting, and integration activities as needed

Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related discipline
5+ years of professional experience in mechanical design or hardware engineering
Strong hands-on experience designing mechanical components and assemblies for real-world hardware systems
Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or similar
Solid understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and technical drawing standards
Experience designing and integrating mechanisms such as linkages, gears, motors, or actuators
Experience with rapid prototyping or fabrication methods such as CNC machining, sheet metal, or additive manufacturing
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently

Preferred Experience
Experience in aerospace, UAV, robotics, automotive, or other high-performance mechanical systems
Experience designing hardware intended for production environments
Experience supporting prototype builds, testing, and system integration
