MECHANICAL DESIGNER
RATE: $70K - $90K
LOCATION: TUCSON, ARIZONA
FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE
You'll build deep familiarity with product lines — including CGH fabrication fixtures, optical test stations, and alignment systems — and develop ownership over drawing packages and design documentation workflows.
For a full-time hire, growth opportunities include expanding into systems-level mechanical design, taking on responsibility for vendor relationships and manufacturing oversight, and potentially leading mechanical design efforts on major programs. At our company strong contributors gain visibility quickly — there's no layers of bureaucracy between you and impactful work. As the company grows, there is potential for senior or lead mechanical designer roles, and for the right person, involvement in product development strategy and customer-facing technical discussions.
Key projects in the first quarter and first year: Take preliminary designs, modeled in SolidWorks and work with the engineer to refine the design for manufacturability and to create the drawings, data, and documentation required for the manufacture.
Required skills: SolidWorks
Modeling parts, assemblies
Knowledge, experience design for manufacturing
Working knowledge of standard manufacturing processes and how they drive the design
Experience tolerancing components and assemblies for economical manufacture
Creating and checking drawings
Working knowledge of GD&T
Creating documentation (BOM, procedures)
Must be a US person (able to work on ITAR restricted projects)
Nice-to-have skills:
Machining, NC programming, welding, additive manufacturing
Experience with optics, optomechanics
Space hardware experience
