As a Manufacturing Design Engineer, you will be the second line of support for our Production team. You will support operations with the assembly, test, certification, and shipment of our products. You will interface with multiple departments (Quality, Engineering, Production, Sales), working together to tackle new challenges.
Create and maintain assembly work instructions, drawings, and other production documentation.
Refine build sequences related to system assembly, integration, and certification. Drive improvement projects to meet cycle time targets and product specifications.
Initiate and drive Engineering Change Orders, structuring BOMs and creating test/assembly documentation as needed.
Build, test and qualify mechanical, electrical, and optical sub-assemblies and products.
Work with suppliers to resolve low yield and quality issues, in a timely manner. Support Purchasing in driving supplier quality improvements and cost reduction efforts.
Interface with Design Engineering for the release of New Product into Manufacturing. Participate in design review and help to test prototype units.
Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and perform updates of models or drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
Drive continuous improvement of system hardware, tooling and technical documentation to minimize Cycle Time and Quality issues.
Analyze manufacturing data via statistical process control to drive process, specification, and design improvements.
Apply 8D methodology to resolve issues in Production and in the Field. Summarize and present data to stakeholders.
Provide strong technical support to resolve Production escalations and help ensure on-time shipment.
Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree (required), Master’s or advanced degree (desired) in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Physics/Materials Science.
Ability to work under frequently changing priorities and deadlines, while keeping a keen awareness of the impact on other areas of the organization.
Understanding of system level interactions between optics, electronics, and mechanical parts to enable effective problem solving at the system level down to the individual piece part level.
Demonstrated problem-solving ability and experience in statistical process control to analyze data.
Able to test and qualify mechanical, optical, and electronic components and sub-assemblies.
Able to work with suppliers to improve incoming material quality and acceptance. Previous experience in supplier development is a plus.
Able to communicate effectively with peers, interdisciplinary engineering groups, customers, and suppliers.
Self-driven individual with keen technical ability, systematic approach, and excellent problem-solving skills. Candidate should have a positive attitude, be detail-oriented and be a strong team player.
Solid modeling, structural analysis, Finite Elements Analysis (FEA), and SolidWorks experience a plus.
Expertise in Microsoft Office. Ability to operate and troubleshoot software-driven systems.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
This position requires the ability to lift 25 pounds.
Wear applicable PPE including safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, and work under a hood as required.
Demonstrated experience in the development of technical documentation.
Demonstrated experience in the development of manufacturing processes and process improvements.
Experience with tracking non-conformance as well as rework and scrap rates.
Experience with Engineering Change process.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Level Degree and 0 years related work experience; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 2 years; or equivalent work experience
