Mainframe Engineer

Optomi, in partnership with a leading financial services institution, is looking for a hands-on Mainframe Engineer to support and evolve our z/OS environment end-to-end—covering core infrastructure, platform products (DB2, CICS, IMS, MQ), production control, and storage management. You’ll be responsible for stable operations, incident/problem/change management, capacity/performance tuning, and automation—partnering closely with application teams to keep mission-critical workloads running reliably and securely.

What type of experience does the right candidate have:
5+ years in mainframe (z/OS) infrastructure or production support roles
Strong hands-on knowledge of z/OS, JES2/JES3, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, USS/OMVS, SMP/E
Practical experience with DB2, CICS, IMS, IBM MQ
Production control experience with Control M, CA 7, ESP/Autosys
Storage fundamentals: DFSMS, DFSMShsm, ICF catalog/IDCAMS, DASD/tape operations
Proficiency with monitoring and performance analysis (RMF/SMF, OMEGAMON)
Familiarity with RACF/ACF2/Top Secret concepts
Solid understanding of ITIL processes

What the responsibilities are of the right candidate:
Operate, maintain, and optimize z/OS LPARs and related systems
Install and configure mainframe software using SMP/E
Support and administer DB2, CICS, IMS, and IBM MQ subsystems
Manage workload automation and batch scheduling using tools like Control M
Implement and maintain security controls and support audits
Participate in BCP/DR planning and testing
