We are seeking an experienced Lead Systems Design Engineer who will serve as a senior technical leader within the organization. This individual will take ownership of engineering quality, perform final design reviews, mentor and work with junior designers, and help improve the systems and processes that drive our engineering team.
Position Overview
The Systems Design Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, accuracy, and consistency of all engineering deliverables. This role goes beyond system design and includes leadership, mentoring, quality control, process development, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate has significant experience designing residential smart home systems and can confidently review technical work, identify issues before deployment, and guide team members toward successful project outcomes. This position also requires a strong interest in utilizing AI and automation tools to improve productivity and scale engineering operations.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform reviews and approvals of engineering deliverables before release
· Review floor plans, schematics, wiring diagrams, rack elevations, scopes of work, and project documentation
· Ensure all designs meet company standards and best practices
· Identify technical, operational, or installation risks before project handoff
· Design and support residential automation systems including AV, lighting, networking, surveillance, access control, and control systems
· Collaborate with sales, project management, and engineering teams to develop scalable technical solutions
· Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers and designers
· Train new team members on company standards, workflows, and engineering best practices
· Develop SOPs, templates, quality standards, and training documentation
· Leverage AI tools and automation platforms to improve design workflows and productivity
· Continuously improve engineering processes and standards
Required Qualifications
· Minimum 3–5 years of experience designing residential smart home, home automation, AV, or integrated technology systems
· Strong knowledge of residential smart home ecosystems including at least one major control system or discipline such as Savant, Crestron, Josh AI, Lutron, Control4 networking, AV distribution, surveillance, and related technologies
· Demonstrated experience creating and reviewing floor plans, wiring diagrams, schematics, rack elevations, and technical documentation
· Experience performing quality control reviews and maintaining engineering standards
· Ability to identify technical issues and recommend practical solutions
· Experience mentoring, training, or supporting junior engineers or designers
· Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
· Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing multiple priorities
· Comfortable using AI tools to improve productivity, quality control, and engineering output
· Experience with Revit
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with D-tools, Visio, AutoCAD, Figma, or similar design platforms
· Industry certifications such as CTS, Crestron, Savant, Lutron, networking, or related certifications
· Experience creating SOPs, engineering standards, and training programs
· Experience leading design teams or serving as a senior reviewer
· Background working on luxury residential projects

· Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering department
