About the Client:
My client is a well-funded, rapidly expanding deep-tech hardware company. They have recently established their US headquarters to build out the physical components needed to scale fault-tolerant, photonics-based quantum computers.

The Role:
We are searching for a Lead Photonic IC Design Engineer to oversee the architectural design of the optical circuits that will route and manipulate light for quantum operations. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will lead a team of engineers drawing and simulating complex optical components on silicon and silicon-nitride wafers. You will play a critical role in translating complex optical physics into scalable, commercial hardware.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and simulation of microscopic optical waveguides, fast optical switches, delay loops, and other critical PIC components.
Oversee the entire lifecycle of Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) development, from concept and simulation through to tape-out.
Collaborate directly with the CTO and the UK-based theoretical teams to translate quantum processing architectures into physical photonic layouts.
Work closely with the Test & Measurement Lead to analyze chip performance data and refine subsequent design iterations.
Manage, mentor, and expand a specialized US-based team of photonic layout and design engineers.

Requirements:
Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related discipline.
Proven industry track record in Integrated Photonics, advanced telecommunications hardware, or optical sensing design.
Expertise in industry-standard photonic design and simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, KLayout, Cadence, or similar).
Extensive experience managing PIC tape-outs and working with commercial semiconductor foundries.
Strong leadership skills with experience managing technical hardware design teams.
