Lead Embedded Hardware Engineer
Location: Jacksonville, FL | Fully On-Site
Compensation: $130,000-$150,000 base plus bonus
Employment Type: Full-time, salaried

The Opportunity:
We are partnering with an established Jacksonville-based industrial technology company to hire a hands-on Lead Embedded Hardware Engineer.

This individual will provide technical leadership for a small hardware team while remaining deeply involved in circuit design, schematic development, PCB reviews, board bring-up, testing, debugging, and production support. The immediate focus is advancing and sustaining an established portfolio of wireless embedded products through enhancements, upgrades, reliability improvements, and complex problem-solving.

This is a player-coach opportunity for an engineer who enjoys broad technical ownership and wants to influence product performance from the lab through manufacturing and field use.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead hands-on hardware enhancements, revisions, and upgrades for existing embedded electronic products.
Design and modify analog, digital, mixed-signal, microcontroller-based, sensor-interface, wireless, and power circuitry.
Develop schematics and review PCB layouts for performance, signal integrity, EMC, manufacturability, and testability.
Perform board bring-up, functional verification, environmental and reliability testing, and complex hardware debugging.
Investigate field failures, returned products, intermittent defects, and hardware-versus-firmware issues.
Support manufacturing through engineering changes, yield improvement, defect reduction, pilot builds, and production troubleshooting.
Partner with procurement and supply chain on component availability, alternate qualification, obsolescence, supplier issues, and second sourcing.
Support engineering documentation, configuration management, root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and product compliance activities.
Provide technical direction, mentoring, design reviews, prioritization, and knowledge-sharing for a small engineering team.
Collaborate closely with firmware, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, technical support, and operations.

Required Experience:
Hands-on experience designing and supporting embedded electronic products.
Demonstrated ownership of circuit design, schematic development, PCB revisions or reviews, and board bring-up.
Experience with analog, digital, or mixed-signal circuitry involving microcontrollers, sensors, power supplies, battery-powered devices, or embedded communication interfaces.
Experience improving or sustaining released products through engineering changes, production support, component changes, field issues, or reliability improvements.
Strong laboratory troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills using equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, digital multimeters, and power supplies.
Experience supporting manufacturing, suppliers, quality, and cross-functional product teams.
Ability to lead technical work and mentor others while remaining personally hands-on.
Experience with a professional schematic and PCB design platform such as Altium Designer, PADS, OrCAD, Cadence, KiCad, or a comparable tool.

A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline is preferred. Candidates with substantial equivalent embedded-hardware experience will also be considered.

Preferred Experience:
Wireless sensors, industrial IoT, instrumentation, telemetry, data acquisition, medical devices, avionics, or other rugged connected products.
Low-power or battery-operated hardware using Bluetooth, BLE, sub-GHz, 900 MHz, Wi-Fi, cellular, or comparable wireless technology.
Accelerometers, vibration sensing, ultrasound, temperature sensing, signal conditioning, analog front ends, ADCs, or DSP-based systems.
DFM, DFT, EMC/EMI mitigation, environmental testing, and product certification.
FCC, CE, UL, HazLoc, ATEX, IECEx, ISO 9001, or another structured product-compliance environment.
Working knowledge of embedded firmware, C, C++, Python, or Linux.
Experience working in a small or mid-sized product company where engineers carry broad ownership.

Compensation and Benefits:
