Mechanical Engineer – Landing Gear Systems (UAV / Aerospace)
We’re developing next-generation UAV aircraft and advanced command & control systems to enable coordinated autonomous operations at scale. Backed by a team with deep aerospace and defense experience, we are building purpose-designed aircraft for demanding mission environments.
The RoleLead the design and development of landing gear systems for a new class of aircraft built specifically for unique operational requirements. You will create solutions from first principles, balancing weight, strength, and reliability while collaborating closely with structures, flight controls, and systems teams. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where your work directly shapes the aircraft.
What You’ll DoLead mechanical design of landing gear systems including shock absorption, actuation, retraction mechanisms, and structural interfacesPerform structural and fatigue analysis, kinematics modeling, and design validation through simulation and testingDevelop and maintain 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and integration assembliesSelect materials and manufacturing processes optimized for weight, durability, and costCollaborate with structures, electrical, and flight control teams to ensure seamless aircraft integrationDevelop test plans and support ground and flight testing of landing gear systemsAnalyze test data and rapidly iterate designs based on performance resultsGenerate engineering documentation, specifications, and technical reports to support testing and productionIdentify technical risks and implement practical mitigation strategies
Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or related field)7+ years of mechanical engineering experience in aerospace, automotive, or high-performance systemsExperience designing landing gear, suspension systems, or similar mechanical systems with shock absorption and actuationProficiency in SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA; strong understanding of GD&TStrong background in structural analysis and FEA (ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar)Understanding of machining, composites, additive manufacturing, and DFM principlesHands-on experience building prototypes and troubleshooting hardware in lab or shop environments
Preferred QualificationsExperience designing retractable landing gear systemsBackground in aircraft structures or systems integrationFamiliarity with FAA or MIL-SPEC certification requirementsExperience with composite materials and lightweighting strategiesProgramming or scripting experience (Python, MATLAB) for engineering analysis or automationThrives in a fast-paced, iterative engineering environment
