About NovaTech

NovaTech designs and builds hardware and software for the electrical grid — the infrastructure that powers homes, businesses, and communities across the country. With facilities in Kansas and Pennsylvania, we develop the grid equipment and technology that keeps power flowing reliably. We want curious, driven engineering students to be part of that work.

What You'll Be Doing

This is a hands-on summer internship — not a coffee-fetching role. You'll work directly with our Mechanical Engineering team to create, update, and organize the CAD models and technical drawings that our engineers and customers rely on every day.

Your day-to-day will include:

Building and updating 3D models and 2D drawings of NovaTech products (enclosures, assemblies, electrical hardware) using SolidWorks
Making sure drawings follow GD&T standards — that's the universal language engineers use to communicate exact dimensions and tolerances on technical drawings
Organizing CAD files in our document control system — think of it like a filing system, but for engineering models
Preparing visuals (drawings, renderings) for product manuals and installation guides
Helping build Bills of Materials (BOMs) — lists of every part that goes into a product
Sitting in on design reviews and team check-ins, getting real feedback on your work

What We're Looking For

You're a great fit if you:

Are currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering (or closely related) Bachelor's program at sophomore level or above
Have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
Know your way around SolidWorks — part modeling, assemblies, and 2D drawings
Are comfortable with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Pay attention to the details — accuracy in engineering drawings isn't optional
Communicate proactively when you have questions or hit a roadblock

Bonus points if you have:

Coursework in engineering graphics, technical drawing, or CAD design
Previous internship or class project experience with CAD modeling
Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 / GD&T drawing standards
Any exposure to document control or PDM/PLM systems — software used to track and manage engineering files

What You'll Get Out of This

Real engineering work — your CAD models will go into actual product documentation
Experience with professional tools and processes used across the industry
Mentorship from experienced mechanical engineers
A strong line on your resume and portfolio
